π³οΈπ« VOORHEESVILLE VOTERS APPROVE SCHOOL & LIBRARY BUDGETS! ππ
Voorheesville residents headed to the polls Tuesday and overwhelmingly approved the Voorheesville Central School Districtβs proposed $36.6 million budget for the 2026-27 school year. β
With 606 ballots cast, the budget passed by a strong 429-177 margin β about 71% in favor. Voters also approved the districtβs transportation proposition, including the purchase of:
π A new 72-passenger diesel school bus
β‘ A 64-passenger electric bus
π A new Chevrolet Suburban
The Voorheesville Public Library budget also received strong community support, passing 463-143, with more than 76% approval. πβ€οΈ
Residents additionally elected:
βοΈ Argi OβLeary to a third term on the school board with 475 votes
βοΈ Samantha Bailey to the library board
βοΈ Elizabeth Guastella earned enough write-in votes to claim the open school board seat after launching a grassroots campaign just one week before the election.
Guastella, a Voorheesville native and parent of two students in the district, said her decision to run came from a desire to give back to a school community she deeply values. Her write-in effort quickly gained traction across social media and the community. π
Tuesdayβs results also highlighted the dedication required of school board members, with former and current district leaders noting that serving on the board often involves many hours each month beyond regular meetings β including committee work, budget planning, and community engagement.
The strong voter turnout and overwhelming support once again showed how much the Voorheesville community values its schools, students, teachers, and local library system. β€οΈπ«π
