What a morning of strength, determination, and community spirit! π
The 48th Annual Delightful Run for Women, presented by Sara Lee, brought nearly 3,000 women to Albany on Saturday for one of the Capital Region's most beloved traditions. Among the participants were many runners from Delmar, Slingerlands, Voorheesville, and the RCS community who trained for months to reach the starting line. π
Many local runners prepared through the Sara Lee Training Challenge, meeting weekly on the Albany County Rail Trail in Delmar this spring to build endurance, confidence, and friendships along the way. πΆββοΈπββοΈπ€οΈ
π Race Highlights:
π₯ Katie Izzo of Flagstaff, Arizona captured the overall victory in her first-ever visit to Albany.
πͺ Stephanie Bruce, a 42-year-old mother of three, finished right behind her, proving that age is no barrier to achieving big goals.
π 70-year-old Melanie Miller, who didn't begin running until age 60, completed her seventh Delightful Run and even beat her goal time!
β€οΈ Beyond the finish line, the event celebrated something even bigger: women supporting and empowering one another.
π¬ "When women empower other women, anything is possible."
From elite athletes to first-time runners, the day was filled with inspiration, encouragement, and countless personal victories.
π Congratulations to all of the local women from Bethlehem, Voorheesville, and RCS who participated in this year's event. Whether you ran, walked, volunteered, or cheered from the sidelines, you helped make the day special!

βπ END OF AN ERA: MAIN STREET CAFE ANNOUNCES CLOSING IN ALTAMONT πβ
A beloved local gathering spot in Altamont will soon be serving its final cup of coffee.
The owners of Main Street Cafe, located at 198 Main Street in Altamont, announced this week that the cafΓ© will be closing its doors after nearly four years in business. π’
In a heartfelt message shared on social media, the owners reflected on the journey:
π¬ "This little cafe was built with hope, hard work, and our lifelong dream to create a place where people felt at home."
They continued by thanking the community for its support and shared that many customers became much more than patrons over the years.
π¬ "This isn't just the loss of a business to us. It's the closing of a chapter filled with memories, friendships, laughter, and people who became so much more than customers... many of you became friends and family."
π Final Day of Business: Sunday, June 7
π Customers holding gift certificates are encouraged to visit and redeem them before the cafΓ© closes.
Small businesses are often the heart of our communities, and the closing of a local cafΓ© is never easy for owners, employees, or loyal customers who made it part of their daily routines.
β€οΈ Join us in thanking the Main Street Cafe team for their contributions to the Altamont community over the past four years and wishing them the very best in their next chapter.

Despite some less-than-cooperative weather, plenty of local residents headed to South Albany Airport in Selkirk on Saturday morning for the EAA Chapter 1699 Pancake Breakfast! βπ₯
According to the chapter's president, the event was a success, bringing together aviation enthusiasts, families, and community members for a great morning at the airport. π
π¦οΈ Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans for some of the festivities.
βοΈ Only a handful of small aircraft were able to land due to weather conditions.
π§οΈ The popular scenic airplane rides were postponed because of adverse weather and safety concerns.
Even so, attendees still enjoyed:
π₯ Delicious pancakes and breakfast fare
β Coffee and conversation
βοΈ Up-close views of aircraft
π€ Connecting with local aviation enthusiasts
EAA Chapter 1699 continues its mission of promoting recreational aviation, aviation education, and community involvement right here in the Bethlehem area.
π Thank you to all the volunteers, organizers, pilots, and visitors who helped make the event a success despite the challenging weather!
