🚨🏍️ GUILTY PLEA ENTERED IN FATAL BETHLEHEM MOTORCYCLE CRASH 🏍️⚖️
A Ravena man has pleaded guilty in connection with a fatal crash that claimed the life of a Schenectady motorcyclist in Bethlehem last summer.
According to court proceedings, Jacob Snide, 34, admitted responsibility for causing the July 14, 2025 crash on Route 9W near Corning Hill Road when his vehicle crossed the center line and struck an oncoming motorcycle.

The victim, Patrick Lafortune Jr., 32, was transported to Albany Medical Center but later died from his injuries.
Lafortune was well known throughout the Capital Region as the owner of a construction business and for mentoring young people through an apprenticeship program. Friends and family described him as someone who made a lasting impact on many lives, and his passing prompted an overwhelming outpouring of support from the community.
As part of Friday's court proceedings, Snide pleaded guilty to manslaughter. Prosecutors indicated he faces up to 12 years in state prison when he is sentenced on September 10.
The Albany County District Attorney's Office also used the case to highlight concerns about New York's impaired driving laws, noting that current statutes can limit prosecutors' ability to pursue stronger penalties in certain cases involving suspected drug impairment.
In a separate matter, Snide still faces charges in Saratoga County stemming from an unrelated incident that occurred several weeks before the fatal Bethlehem crash.
Our thoughts remain with the family, friends, and loved ones of Patrick Lafortune Jr. as this case moves toward sentencing.

⚡💡 NATIONAL GRID AMONG UTILITIES FINED OVER CUSTOMER SERVICE PERFORMANCE 💰📞
⚡💡 NATIONAL GRID AMONG UTILITIES FINED OVER CUSTOMER SERVICE PERFORMANCE 💰📞
Bethlehem and Capital Region residents who rely on National Grid may be interested in a new report from New York's Public Service Commission (PSC).
The PSC has announced approximately $50 million in penalties against five utility companies after they failed to meet customer service performance standards during the latest reporting period.
The annual review measures how utilities serve their customers, including:
📞 Call center response times
😊 Customer satisfaction ratings
📋 Complaint levels filed with the PSC
🧾 Billing accuracy and adjusted or estimated bills
⏰ Missed service appointments and wait times
National Grid, which serves much of the Capital Region, was among the utilities receiving penalties. According to the company, it plans to use the PSC's findings to continue improving service for its approximately four million customers.
The report highlights concerns raised by some customers, including higher-than-expected utility bills and long appointment windows. Others reported positive experiences, particularly with restoration efforts following power outages.
State officials say the purpose of the annual review is to hold utilities accountable and encourage better customer service across New York. They also remind customers that if they cannot resolve an issue directly with their utility provider, they have the option of filing a complaint with the New York State Department of Public Service.
Meanwhile, six utilities met the state's customer service benchmarks this year, including standards for timely call responses and issuing customer credits when appropriate.
💬 Have you had a recent experience with National Grid?
Was it positive... or do you think customer service needs improvement?

🧩☕ SATURDAY MORNING MATH PUZZLER SOLVED! ☕🧩

🧠🔢 Saturday Morning Math Puzzler – Solution! ☕✨
The problem is:
50 ÷ (5 × 2) + 5 = ?
Let's solve it step by step using the Order of Operations (PEMDAS).
✅ Step 1: Solve what's inside the parentheses first.
5 × 2 = 10
Now the problem becomes:
50 ÷ 10 + 5
✅ Step 2: Perform division.
50 ÷ 10 = 5
Now we have:
5 + 5
✅ Step 3: Add.
5 + 5 = 10
🎉 Final Answer: 10 ✅
📚 Teaching Tip
Remember the order of operations:
P – Parentheses
E – Exponents
M – Multiplication
D – Division (left to right)
A – Addition
S – Subtraction (left to right)
The parentheses are the key to this puzzle. Once you simplify them, the rest falls into place.
💡 A common mistake is trying to divide by 5 first and then multiply by 2—but the parentheses tell you to multiply 5 × 2 before doing anything else.
🧠 Great job if you got 10! These puzzles are a fun way to keep your brain sharp while enjoying your morning coffee!
☕ See you tomorrow for another Bethlehem Local News Morning Math Puzzler!
