Albany Police say a Bethlehem man has been charged with attempted murder after a violent incident Saturday afternoon that left another man hospitalized with injuries.

According to investigators, officers responded around 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 18, to the Lucky Cat Laundromat on Madison Avenue in Albany after reports of an assault.

Police say they found a 23-year-old man suffering from a serious cut to his forehead. Following their investigation, authorities allege the victim had been struck in the head with a machete.

The injured man was treated at the scene by Albany Fire Department personnel and EMS before being transported to Albany Medical Center, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police arrested 30-year-old Chance Niccoli of Bethlehem at the scene. He has been charged with Attempted Murder in the Second Degree and was expected to be arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court.

The investigation remains ongoing.

If you were traveling around Bethlehem, Delmar, Glenmont, Selkirk, Slingerlands, Voorheesville, RCS, or anywhere across New York during the July 4 holiday, chances are you noticed an increased law enforcement presence—and now we know why.

State officials announced that more than 50,000 traffic tickets were issued during the statewide enforcement campaign that ran from June 29 through July 5, with officers focusing on impaired, distracted, and reckless driving.

📊 Enforcement by the Numbers:
🚨 50,417 total traffic tickets issued
🍺 1,576 impaired driving arrests/tickets
🚗 8,170 speeding violations
📱 2,025 distracted driving violations
🎗️ 3,661 seat belt violations
🚓 408 Move Over Law violations

Throughout the holiday week, state and local law enforcement agencies conducted sobriety checkpoints and stepped-up patrols in an effort to keep New York's roads safe.

Officials say that while the vast majority of drivers celebrated responsibly, hundreds still chose to drive while impaired or engage in dangerous driving behaviors, resulting in enforcement action.

As summer travel continues, authorities are reminding everyone to:
✅ Plan ahead if alcohol is involved
🚕 Use a designated driver or rideshare
📵 Put the phone away while driving
🚗 Slow down and obey speed limits
🚨 Move over for emergency and roadside vehicles
