The Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Varsity Football team faced a difficult challenge Friday night, falling 48-7 to the Averill Park Warriors in a matchup against one of the region's stronger football programs.

Coming off a hard-fought victory the previous week, the Ravens were hoping to keep their momentum going, but Averill Park proved too much to overcome.

It was a battle for first place in the Class C Reinfurt Division Saturday as the Voorheesville Blackbirds hosted the two-time defending Section 2 champion Schuylerville Black Horses.

Both teams entered the highly anticipated matchup undefeated in division play at 2-0, but Schuylerville took control on its way to a 56-13 victory.

🔥 GAME HIGHLIGHTS

Schuylerville wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, with Ernie DaCosta breaking loose for a 30-yard touchdown run on the Black Horses' opening possession.

💪 Voorheesville's defense delivered an early highlight!

Blackbirds defender Harry Wilson forced a fumble, which teammate Noah Stoddard recovered, giving Voorheesville an opportunity to shift the momentum.

The Blackbirds couldn't capitalize, however, and Schuylerville carried a 6-0 advantage into the second quarter.

🏈 The Black Horses then erupted for 29 unanswered points in the second quarter, building a commanding 35-0 halftime lead.

Schuylerville's Ernie DaCosta led the offensive charge with four rushing touchdowns in the first half, while Blake Cumm also contributed a touchdown run.

With the victory, Schuylerville improves to:

Today's math puzzler is a great reminder that knowing your order of operations is just as important as knowing how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide!

Can you solve it without a calculator?

Let's walk through the solution step by step.

PEMDAS is the mathematical rule that tells us which operations to perform first.

Important: Multiplication and division have equal priority. Both must be completed before addition and subtraction.

Start with our original equation:

\[ 30\div5+5\times2 \]

Divide 30 by 5:

\[ 30\div5=6 \]

Our equation now becomes:

\[ 6+5\times2 \]

Next, multiply 5 by 2:

\[ 5\times2=10 \]

Now we have:

\[ 6+10 \]

\[ 6+10=\boxed{16} \]

THE CORRECT ANSWER

\(30\div5+5\times2=6+10=16\)

A common mistake is to work strictly from left to right without considering the order of operations.

For example:

\[ 30\div5=6 \]

\[ 6+5=11 \]

\[ 11\times2=22 \]
