Saturday's beautiful sunny weather provided the perfect backdrop for a fun-filled Community Day hosted by the North Bethlehem Fire Department! 🚒❤️

Families and neighbors came out to enjoy an afternoon packed with activities, plenty of food and lots of smiling faces.

🏰 Bounce houses for the kids
🎨 Face painting
🛝 Fun around the playground
🧗 And plenty of adventurous climbers taking on the Albany County Sheriff's Office Rock Wall!

Events like this are a great reminder that our local volunteer fire departments are about much more than responding when an emergency occurs. They're also an important part of the communities they serve, bringing neighbors and families together. ❤️

The North Bethlehem Fire Department serves residents and businesses across portions of three different towns — North Bethlehem in the Town of Bethlehem, the southeastern corner of the Town of Guilderland and the northeastern corner of the Town of New Scotland.

👏 A Big THANK YOU to the North Bethlehem Fire Department, the Albany County Sheriff's Office, volunteers and everyone who helped make Community Day such an enjoyable event.

A troubling situation involving senior and adult care facilities on Rockefeller Road in Delmar continues to develop.

The Albany Center for Independent Living at 141 Rockefeller Road has now been declared uninhabitable by Town of Bethlehem building officials following the evacuation of its residents.

According to reporting from the Daily Gazette/Spotlight News, the last of 45 residents were relocated by the evening of September 4 after the town ordered the 67-bed adult home vacated because of multiple alleged code violations and reports involving unsafe and unsanitary conditions and problems with food being provided to residents.

🏠 45 RESIDENTS RELOCATED

Residents were reportedly transferred by the New York State Department of Health to alternative housing in locations across New York, with some placements reportedly as far away as Staten Island.

The evacuation became an extensive community effort. Delmar-Bethlehem EMS volunteers, Town of Bethlehem employees and Senior Services staff helped residents safely leave the building and pack their belongings.

Community members also donated suitcases so residents could take important personal possessions with them. For some, this wasn't simply leaving a facility — it meant suddenly leaving a place they had called home for many years.

❤️ A special thank-you goes to the local EMS volunteers, town employees and community members who stepped in to assist residents during an extremely difficult transition.

🔎 INVESTIGATION NOW UNDERWAY NEXT DOOR

The situation has also prompted scrutiny of the neighboring Delmar Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing at 125 Rockefeller Road, a 120-bed skilled nursing facility operated by the same organization.

Bethlehem building officials are investigating possible code violations there and have identified issues including a leaking roof. However, officials said that, as of the September 10 report, they had not found conditions serious enough from a building-code standpoint to require the facility to close.

The New York State Department of Health is conducting a separate investigation of the rehabilitation and nursing facility, and that investigation remains pending.

📋 Meanwhile, the town is awaiting a corrective action plan from the owners of the now-vacated adult home at 141 Rockefeller Road.

This story directly affects some of the community's most vulnerable residents and raises important questions about building safety, living conditions, regulatory oversight and the care of seniors and adults who depend on residential facilities.

It is also important to distinguish between the two Rockefeller Road facilities: 141 Rockefeller Road has been evacuated and declared uninhabitable, while the investigation into 125 Rockefeller Road remains ongoing.

Here’s something that caught our attention Saturday evening in Delmar! 👀

A large group of late-model used Toyota SUVs — with an estimated combined value of more than $300,000 — was spotted parked together at the Delaware Avenue Park & Ride, along the edge of the lot closest to the Bank of America branch.

The vehicles appear to be associated with Hudson Toyota in Jersey City and may be in transit, although Bethlehem Local News has not yet independently confirmed why the vehicles were being stored at the Park & Ride.

📞 We reached out to Hudson Toyota for additional information, but the dealership was closed and we have not yet received a response. We'll update the story if we learn more.

Whatever the reason, seeing this much automotive inventory sitting together overnight certainly makes for an unusual sight in Delmar!

👮 And it says something positive about our community that a business would apparently feel comfortable leaving such valuable vehicles here overnight. Thank you to the Bethlehem Police Department and all those who work to keep our community safe.

Today's problem is:

42 ÷ 6 × 4

The key is knowing what to do when division and multiplication appear together.

Some people may be tempted to multiply 6 × 4 first, but that would be incorrect because multiplication does not automatically come before division.

Under the order of operations (PEMDAS), multiplication and division have the same priority. When both appear, work from left to right.

Step 1: Start with the operation on the left:

42 ÷ 6 = 7

Step 2: Now multiply:

7 × 4 = 28

💡 Teaching Tip: Remember that PEMDAS doesn't mean "multiplication before division." Think of multiplication and division as a team — whichever comes first from left to right gets done first.
