NEW YORK JOINS MULTI-STATE LAWSUIT OVER PERSONAL DATA PRIVACY

🔒⚖️ NEW YORK JOINS MULTI-STATE LAWSUIT OVER PERSONAL DATA PRIVACY ⚖️🔒

A new legal battle involving New York State could have implications for thousands of Capital Region residents who receive public assistance benefits.

New York Attorney General Letitia James has joined more than 20 states and the District of Columbia in a federal lawsuit seeking to block a new federal policy that would allow broader sharing of personal information collected through the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program.

📝 What's Happening?

The lawsuit challenges a proposed federal rule that would allow agencies administering the program to share recipient information—including items such as:

🔹 Social Security numbers
🔹 Immigration status information
🔹 Other personal identifying data

The coalition argues that expanding access to this information raises significant privacy concerns and could discourage eligible families from seeking assistance.

🏡 Why This Matters to Bethlehem Area Residents

While the case is being fought at the federal level, its outcome could directly affect New Yorkers who participate in public assistance programs.

For Bethlehem-area residents, the lawsuit highlights several important issues:

Protection of personal information collected by government agencies
Privacy safeguards for families receiving assistance
How federal and state governments manage sensitive personal data
The future administration of programs that help low-income families

The Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program provides billions of dollars annually to states, supporting services such as temporary cash assistance, employment programs, job training, and other resources for eligible families.

⚖️ What Happens Next?

The lawsuit asks a federal court to prevent the new information-sharing policy from taking effect while the legal challenge proceeds.

As the case moves through the courts, its outcome could shape how personal information is handled within public assistance programs nationwide.

📢 What are your thoughts? Should stronger personal privacy protections remain in place for government benefit programs, or should other agencies within the Federal Government and potentially private contractors have broader access to this information to investigate potential fraud? Share your perspective respectfully in the comments.

🩺🏥 DELMAR FAMILY MEDICINE JOINS ALBANY MED HEALTH SYSTEM! ❤️👨‍⚕️

A longtime healthcare provider serving the Bethlehem community is entering a new chapter.

Delmar Family Medicine, which has cared for local families for nearly two decades, has officially joined the Albany Med Health System, expanding access to one of the Capital Region's largest nonprofit healthcare networks.

Located at 1499 New Scotland Road in Slingerlands, the practice was founded by Dr. Peter Forman in 2007 and has operated from its current home in the historic former Slingerlands Methodist Church since 2016.

🏥 Why This Matters to Bethlehem Area Residents

For the practice's approximately 6,500 patients, the affiliation is expected to provide:

Continued care from the trusted local providers patients already know
Easier access to Albany Med's extensive network of specialists and services
Better coordination between primary care and specialty care
Access to advanced medical technology and the latest clinical research
Seamless integration within one of the region's largest healthcare systems

Patients will continue to receive comprehensive family medicine and preventive healthcare from the existing medical team, including:

👨‍⚕️ Dr. Peter Forman
👩‍⚕️ Dr. Rebecca Elliott
🩺 Physician Assistant Carly Canavan
💙 Nurse Practitioner Nanette Gamon

🌟 A Strong Local Presence

Delmar Family Medicine has become a trusted healthcare resource for many Bethlehem families over the past 19 years. Joining Albany Med allows the practice to maintain its hometown focus while giving patients greater access to specialized care throughout the Capital Region.

The move is also part of Albany Med Health System's continued regional growth, strengthening connections between local primary care offices and its hospitals and specialty services.

For many Bethlehem residents, this means the convenience of keeping their trusted family doctor while benefiting from an even larger network of medical expertise close to home.

💬 Are you or your family patients at Delmar Family Medicine? We'd love to hear what this practice has meant to your family over the years.

SATURDAY MORNING

MATH PUZZLER SOLVED!

🧠 Saturday Morning Math Puzzler Solution!

The problem is:

6 + 6 × 2 − 6 = ?

The key is to follow the order of operations.

Step 1: Multiply first

Multiplication comes before addition and subtraction:

6 × 2 = 12

Now the expression becomes:

6 + 12 − 6

Step 2: Add and subtract from left to right

6 + 12 = 18

18 − 6 = 12

🎉 Final Answer: 12

💡 Teaching Tip

A common mistake is to work straight across from left to right and do 6 + 6 = 12 first. But multiplication has priority over addition and subtraction.

So always remember:

PEMDAS

  • Parentheses

  • Exponents

  • Multiplication & Division

  • Addition & Subtraction

And for operations with equal priority, work left to right.

🏆 Correct Answer: 12
