π¨π POWERFUL MESSAGE BEFORE PROM SEASON AT RCS HIGH SCHOOL ππ
As prom season and graduation celebrations approach, RCS High School students were given an important and emotional reminder this week about the very real dangers of impaired and distracted driving. β€οΈ
RCS S.A.D.D. (Students Against Destructive Decisions) partnered with:
π Albany County Sheriffβs Office
π¨ Albany County STOP-DWI
to host a special safety assembly and interactive mock crash experience for students ahead of Junior Prom. π
While projected weather forced changes to the outdoor mock crash demonstration, students still participated in a series of impactful activities and presentations designed to show the life-changing consequences that can result from impaired driving.
Students heard firsthand stories from:
π Emergency responders
π Law enforcement personnel
π Individuals affected by impaired or distracted driving crashes
The experience also included:
π Impairment goggles simulating alcohol, marijuana, and opioid effects
π Driving simulations with delayed reaction times
π Field sobriety test activities
π§ Fine motor skill challenges
The goal was to help students better understand how quickly poor decisions behind the wheel can impact lives, families, and entire communities.
β€οΈ More than just a school event
Programs like this are meant to encourage students to:
β
Make safe choices
β
Plan ahead
β
Look out for friends
β
Understand the seriousness of impaired driving
As prom, graduation, and summer celebrations begin across the Capital Region, the message remains simple but critical:
π« Donβt drive impaired
π± Donβt drive distracted
β€οΈ Get home safely
A big thank you to RCS S.A.D.D., school staff, Albany County STOP-DWI, and the Albany County Sheriffβs Office for bringing this important program to students. ππ

π BCHS SENIOR NAMED NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLAR β ONE OF ONLY THREE IN THE CAPITAL REGION! π¦ π
Huge congratulations to Bethlehem Central High School senior Keiran McNay, who has been named a 2026 National Merit Scholar! π
Keiran is one of:
β ONLY 2,500 students nationwide
β ONLY 3 students in the Capital Region
to receive the prestigious National Merit Scholarship award. ππ
The scholarship includes:
π° $2,500 toward college tuition
This fall, Keiran will attend:
π The University of Chicago
where he plans to pursue studies in:
𧬠Molecular Engineering
π Economics
βοΈ Potentially Pre-Law
National Merit Scholars are selected based on:
π Academic excellence
π Standardized test performance
π Leadership & school involvement
π Potential for college success
And Keiranβs accomplishments reach far beyond the classroom. π
Throughout his time at BCHS, he has been deeply involved in:
π€ Speech & Debate (serving as president and earning national rankings)
π» Orchestra (cello section & quartet leader)
π Cross country & indoor track
πΎ Tennis
π€ Students for Peace and Survival club
Through SPAS, Keiran helped raise thousands of dollars to combat food insecurity in the community. β€οΈ
He also plans to continue:
π» Playing cello in college
π£οΈ Participating in debate at UChicago
When asked what heβll miss most about Bethlehem Central, Keiran highlighted the supportive BC community and the encouragement he received throughout his academic journey.
(And yesβ¦ apparently BCHS coffee earned a special shoutout too βπ)
This is an incredible achievement and another proud moment for Bethlehem Central and our entire community. ππ¦
Congratulations, Keiran! Your future is incredibly bright. π

πΌπ‘ TWO BETHLEHEM SMALL BUSINESSES RECEIVE $20,000 COMMUNITY GRANTS! ππ±π
Two local businesses are getting a major boost thanks to the Town of Bethlehemβs Microenterprise Grant Program, which awarded:
π° $20,000 to Stacked Grill in Delmar
π° $20,000 to Sunray Community Farm in Glenmont
The grants are funded through the New York State Office of Homes and Community Renewal and are designed to help small businesses grow, create jobs, and strengthen local communities. β€οΈ
Town officials say programs like this help local entrepreneurs invest in equipment, expand operations, and continue building vibrant commercial districts throughout Bethlehem. π‘π
π Stacked Grill β Delmar
One of the newest restaurants at Four Corners, Stacked Grill recently opened in the former FoCo Taco location on Delaware Avenue.
The fast-casual burger spot was created with:
π¨βπ©βπ§βπ¦ Families
ποΈ Local residents
π₯‘ Takeout customers
in mind.
Grant funding will help support:
π Startup operations
π¦ Packaging & inventory
πͺ Furniture & supplies
π½οΈ Catering operations
π± Sunray Community Farm β Glenmont
Sunray Community Farm recently signed a three-year lease to operate at historic Heath Farm in Bethlehem.
The farm plans to create:
πΏ A regenerative community farm
π» Educational agricultural experiences
π Hands-on learning opportunities
π± A community-centered nursery and growing space
Grant funds will help purchase:
βοΈ Equipment
π οΈ Machinery
πΎ Farming tools & supplies
π€ Supporting local entrepreneurs
Former grant recipient and Wildbird Junction owner Lance Raffe, who now serves on the grant review committee, shared how impactful the program can be for growing businesses and said the committee works hard to help entrepreneurs succeed while also offering mentorship and guidance throughout the process.
Recipients are also required to complete entrepreneurial training before receiving reimbursement funds.
π‘ Why this matters locally
Programs like the Microenterprise Grant Program help:
β
Support locally owned businesses
β
Create jobs
β
Encourage community investment
β
Revitalize commercial districts
β
Keep Bethlehemβs small business community growing
Town officials say this round distributed the remaining available funding for 2025, with the program expected to return again in Fall 2027.
Congratulations to Stacked Grill and Sunray Community Farm! πβ€οΈ
