NEW 45 MPH “BUFFER ZONE” ADDED TO ROUTE 144 IN COEYMANS

🚛⚠️ NEW 45 MPH “BUFFER ZONE” ADDED TO ROUTE 144 IN COEYMANS

Drivers traveling Route 144/River Road in the Town of Coeymans will notice a new speed-limit change aimed at addressing longstanding concerns about heavy truck traffic and roadway safety.

The New York State Department of Transportation has established a 45 mph buffer zone beginning after the existing 30 mph zone as motorists leave Coeymans and continuing toward the industrial area and the Amrize conveyor.

🚦 WHY THE CHANGE?

Route 144 is heavily traveled by trucks serving the nearby industrial area. Residents and local officials have raised concerns for years about truck volume, speed, safety and the impact that heavy commercial traffic has on the surrounding community.

The new 45 mph section is intended to create a more gradual transition in speeds rather than having traffic move directly between the lower-speed village area and higher-speed portions of Route 144.

Albany County Legislator Zach Collins described the change as an initial step and an acknowledgment by the state of the community's ongoing truck-traffic concerns.

🚚 MORE CHANGES COULD BE COMING

The speed reduction is only one part of a larger effort. Albany County and the Advance Albany County Alliance are studying possible alternative truck routes that could potentially reduce heavy truck traffic traveling through Main Street/Route 143 and other parts of the community.

The study is examining potential routes and their effects on traffic, roadway safety, the environment and surrounding neighborhoods. A public open house was held earlier this year to gather feedback from residents and businesses.

Another idea that has been discussed is a new Thruway interchange near the industrial park, although that would be a much larger, longer-term project and currently does not have state backing.

🚘 RCS AREA DRIVERS: Keep an eye out for the new 45 MPH signs on Route 144 and remember that the reduced speed zone is now in effect.

What do you think? Will the new buffer zone make a meaningful difference, or are additional changes needed to address truck traffic in Coeymans? 👇

🐾💉 LOW-COST RABIES VACCINATION CLINIC COMING TO ELM AVENUE PARK! 🐶🐱

Bethlehem pet owners — mark your calendars! Albany County will hold a low-cost Rabies Vaccination Clinic this Saturday, September 19, right here in Delmar at Elm Avenue Park.

📅 Saturday, September 19
10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
📍 Elm Avenue Park, 261 Elm Avenue, Delmar
🐕 Dogs • 🐈 Cats • 🐾 Ferrets
💵 Suggested donation: $8 per animal — cash or check only

📝 Pre-registration is preferred by Thursday, Sept. 17, but walk-ins are welcome.

A few important things to know before you go:

• Dogs must be on a fixed, non-retractable leash with a secure collar or harness, or in a carrier. Cats and ferrets must be in carriers.
• Animals must be at least 3 months old and should not attend if they are ill.
• Bring your pet's previous rabies vaccination record to qualify for a three-year vaccination certification. Without documentation, a one-year certification will be issued.
• Please keep pets under control at all times and clean up after them.

⚠️ WHY IT MATTERS: Rabies remains present in wildlife in Albany County, making vaccination an important protection for both pets and people. New York State requires rabies vaccinations for dogs, cats and domestic ferrets by four months of age.

The clinic is arranged by the Albany County Department of Health in cooperation with the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society.

🐾 For just an $8 suggested donation, this is a great opportunity for Bethlehem-area families to help keep their pets protected and vaccinations up to date!

WEDNESDAY MORNING

MATH PUZZLER SOLVED!

🧮🌞 WEDNESDAY MORNING MATH PUZZLER — DID YOU GET 192? 🤔

Today’s puzzler is:

56 ÷ 7 × 4!

The key is recognizing two different math rules: factorials and the order of operations.

✏️ STEP 1: Solve the factorial first

The ! symbol means factorial.

So:

4! = 4 × 3 × 2 × 1 = 24

Our problem becomes:

56 ÷ 7 × 24

✏️ STEP 2: Division and multiplication have equal priority

This is where people sometimes get tripped up! 😲

When multiplication and division appear together, you work from LEFT to RIGHT.

First:

56 ÷ 7 = 8

Now we have:

8 × 24

✏️ STEP 3: Multiply

8 × 24 = 192

FINAL ANSWER: 192 🎉

A common mistake would be multiplying 7 × 24 first. But without parentheses telling us to do that, multiplication does not automatically come before division. They have equal precedence, so we move from left to right.

🧠 Remember:
Factorial first → then multiplication/division from left to right.
