More than 80 organizations, first responders, businesses, and community groups came together Tuesday evening to make this year's National Night Out at Elm Avenue Park another outstanding success! ❤️

This annual event showcased what makes the Bethlehem community so special—neighbors, families, law enforcement, firefighters, EMS personnel, and local organizations all coming together for an evening centered on community, safety, and fun.

Residents had the opportunity to meet the men and women who serve and protect our community while enjoying a wide variety of family-friendly activities, including:

🚁 New York State Police Aviation Unit helicopter
🚓 Police, fire, and EMS vehicle displays
🎶 Live music and entertainment
🧗 Rock climbing and inflatable activities
🏹 Archery games and children's attractions
🍦 Free treats, food vendors, and refreshments
🎁 Raffles, giveaways, and thousands of toys for children

One of the evening's highlights was recognizing the winners of the Public Safety Poster Contest, which helped educate young people about e-bike and e-scooter safety. Local first responders were also honored for their dedicated service to the Bethlehem community.

Events like National Night Out do far more than provide an evening of entertainment. They help build trust between residents and first responders, strengthen neighborhood connections, promote crime prevention awareness, and remind us that a safer community starts with people getting to know one another.

As communities across the country respond to a recent cyberattack targeting water and wastewater systems, New York State is stepping up efforts to strengthen cybersecurity and protect public drinking water.

Federal officials recently warned that more than 30 water systems across seven states have been affected by cyber incidents that disrupted monitoring and control systems. While investigators continue to determine who was responsible, the attacks highlight the growing importance of protecting critical infrastructure from digital threats.

Every day, families and businesses in Bethlehem, Delmar, Glenmont, Selkirk, Slingerlands, New Scotland, Voorheesville, and the RCS community rely on safe and dependable drinking water.

Although no local water systems have been reported as affected, these attacks serve as an important reminder that modern water systems depend on secure computer networks to monitor treatment plants, pumping stations, and distribution systems.

To help strengthen those defenses, New York State has announced $9 million in funding for 153 local water system cybersecurity projects, with a focus on helping utilities identify vulnerabilities and improve their digital security.

The new investments will help water systems:

🔐 Strengthen network security and access controls

💻 Better defend against ransomware and cyber intrusions

🚰 Protect critical drinking water and wastewater infrastructure
