MEDICARE CHANGES COULD AFFECT THOUSANDS OF LOCAL SENIORS

💊👵 MEDICARE CHANGES COULD AFFECT THOUSANDS OF LOCAL SENIORS 💰📋
A federal program that has helped keep Medicare Part D prescription drug premiums lower over the past two years is scheduled to end on December 31, 2026, a change that could affect approximately 1.3 million Medicare beneficiaries across New York State.
The temporary Medicare Part D Premium Stabilization Demonstration Program was introduced in 2024 to help limit increases in prescription drug plan premiums. With the program ending, some Medicare recipients could see changes to their monthly prescription drug costs beginning in 2027.
❤️ Why This Matters to Bethlehem Area Residents
Communities throughout Bethlehem, Delmar, Glenmont, Slingerlands, Selkirk, Feura Bush, New Scotland, Voorheesville, and the RCS area are home to thousands of older adults who rely on Medicare for prescription drug coverage.
If you or a loved one is enrolled in a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan, it's a good idea to:
✅ Review your plan during the upcoming Medicare Open Enrollment period.
✅ Compare available prescription drug plans for 2027.
✅ Watch for notices from your current provider explaining any premium or coverage changes.
✅ Reach out to your local Office for the Aging or a Medicare counselor if you have questions.
What Officials Are Saying
The announcement has sparked political debate.
New York state officials, including Governor Kathy Hochul and several Democratic lawmakers, argue that ending the subsidy could increase costs for many seniors already living on fixed incomes.
Meanwhile, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) says the program was always intended to be temporary and maintains that most Medicare beneficiaries are expected to see premiums either decrease, remain about the same, or increase by less than $10 per month, with multiple affordable plan options expected to remain available.
As more details become available, Medicare recipients are encouraged to review their coverage carefully before making decisions for 2027.

The Bethlehem Police Department has announced the arrest of a 19-year-old Albany man following a proactive traffic stop Tuesday night on Delaware Avenue near Euclid Avenue in Delmar.
According to police, officers conducted the traffic stop shortly before 9:00 p.m. on August 4. During the stop, they observed a suspected controlled substance in plain view inside the vehicle. Following an investigation, officers recovered approximately 0.82 grams of cocaine from the vehicle.
The driver, Roman D. Greenfield, was charged with:

🚗 Operating a vehicle with unlawful rear-window tint
🪪 No/Improper License Plates
The suspect was arraigned in Bethlehem Town Court on Wednesday morning and released on his own recognizance pending a future court appearance.
❤️ Why This Matters to Bethlehem Residents
Incidents like this highlight the value of proactive traffic enforcement in helping identify illegal narcotics and other criminal activity before it has a greater impact on the community. Routine traffic stops often play an important role in keeping dangerous drugs off local streets while promoting safer roadways throughout Bethlehem.

THINKING OF BUILDING A NEW HOME? HERE'S WHY IT'S COSTING MORE THAN EVER

🏡🔨 THINKING OF BUILDING A NEW HOME? HERE'S WHY IT'S COSTING MORE THAN EVER 💰📈
If you've been dreaming about building a new home in Bethlehem, Glenmont, Delmar, Slingerlands, Selkirk, Voorheesville, or the RCS area, you're not alone—but you'll likely find that today's price tag is higher than many buyers expect.
A new report highlights the rising costs facing both homebuilders and homebuyers across New York. While the prices of materials like lumber and concrete have continued to inch upward, builders say the biggest cost increases often come from permits, regulations, insurance, environmental reviews, and other required fees.
According to the report, these additional expenses can add more than $130,000 to the cost of constructing a new home before the first family even moves in.
❤️ Why This Matters to Bethlehem Area Residents
Our community continues to experience strong demand for housing, while the inventory of existing homes remains limited. As resale home prices continue to climb, more buyers are looking at new construction as an alternative.
For families considering a move, it's worth comparing:
🏠 Existing homes
🏡 New construction
💲 Total long-term costs
🎨 Customization options
📍 Available neighborhoods
Builders also say demand remains healthy because buyers appreciate the ability to customize a brand-new home, even as construction activity has slowed due to higher costs.
State officials have recently introduced reforms intended to streamline the building process and encourage additional housing development, though builders say it may take time before those changes have a noticeable impact on affordability.
Whether you're a first-time buyer, looking to downsize, or planning your forever home, understanding today's construction costs can help you make a more informed decision.

THURSDAY MORNING
MATH PUZZLER SOLVED!

🧠🔢 Thursday Morning Math Puzzler – Step-by-Step Solution!
Problem:
45 + 45 ÷ 5 × 3 = ?
✅ Step 1: Remember the Order of Operations
Use PEMDAS (Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication & Division, Addition & Subtraction).
There are:
❌ No parentheses
❌ No exponents
So we solve division and multiplication from left to right before adding.
✅ Step 2: Do the Division First
45 ÷ 5 = 9
Now the problem becomes:
45 + 9 × 3
✅ Step 3: Multiply
9 × 3 = 27
Now we have:
45 + 27
✅ Step 4: Add
45 + 27 = 72
🎉 Final Answer: 72 ✅
💡 Teaching Tip
A common mistake is adding 45 + 45 = 90 first. That changes the order of operations and leads to the wrong answer.
Always remember:
➡️ Multiply and Divide first (left to right)
➡️ Then Add and Subtract (left to right)
So:
45 ÷ 5 = 9
9 × 3 = 27
45 + 27 = 72
🏆 The correct answer is: 72!
Have fun comparing answers with friends and family, and don't forget to challenge someone else! 😊🧩
