VOORHEESVILLE, NY — An employee at a Voorheesville gas station has been arrested following a customer's complaint that she was inappropriately touched while making a purchase, according to the Albany County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities say the incident occurred Tuesday at a Mobil gas station in Voorheesville.

According to the Sheriff's Office, a female customer reported that while she was attempting to make a purchase, the clerk allegedly attempted to kiss her and then touched her breast without her consent.

Following the complaint, Shaileshkumar Patel, 56, of Altamont, was arrested and charged with forcible touching, a misdemeanor.

As with all criminal cases, an arrest and charge are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

The incident is particularly relevant for residents throughout Voorheesville, New Scotland and the greater Bethlehem-area community, where many people regularly travel, shop and work.

Emergencies don't always come with much warning. National Preparedness Month is a good reminder for Bethlehem-area families to make sure they have the basic supplies needed if severe weather, a power outage or another emergency disrupts everyday life.

The Albany County Department of Health recommends putting together an emergency supply kit that can help your household remain self-sufficient for at least several days.

🎒 WHAT SHOULD BE IN YOUR EMERGENCY KIT?

💧 Water — Plan for one gallon per person, per day, with at least a three-day supply.

🥫 Non-perishable food — Keep enough for approximately 3–4 days, along with a manual can opener.

🔦 Flashlight & extra batteries — Don't depend entirely on your phone for light.

🩹 First aid kit — Keep essential first-aid supplies together and easily accessible.

📱 Cell phone charger — A portable power bank or solar-powered charger can be especially useful during an extended outage.

🛏️ Blankets & extra clothing — Have enough available for everyone in your household.

🧴 Personal hygiene & sanitation supplies — Include necessities such as toilet paper, toothpaste, shampoo, feminine hygiene products and garbage bags.

📣 Whistle — A simple way to signal for assistance if needed.

😷 N95 masks — Keep one available for each household member.

From summer thunderstorms and flash flooding to winter storms, fallen trees and extended power outages, emergencies can happen right here in Bethlehem and throughout Albany County.

A little preparation today can make a difficult situation much easier to manage when the power goes out, roads become impassable or normal services are temporarily disrupted.

📅 ONE MORE IMPORTANT TIP: Check your emergency kit at least once each year. Replace expired food, water, medications and batteries, recharge power banks and make sure clothing and other supplies still meet your family's needs.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 And don't forget to consider the individual needs of children, older adults and pets when building your household plan.

Today’s challenge is:

35 + 32 ÷ 4

The key is remembering PEMDAS, the order of operations:

Parentheses → Exponents → Multiplication/Division → Addition/Subtraction

👉 Step 1: Do the division first.

32 ÷ 4 = 8

Now our problem becomes:

35 + 8

👉 Step 2: Add.

35 + 8 = 43

⚠️ The common mistake: Adding 35 + 32 first would give 67, then dividing by 4. But addition comes after division, so that changes the problem and gives the wrong answer.

💡 Teaching Tip: PEMDAS doesn't mean multiplication always comes before division or addition always comes before subtraction. Multiplication and division share the same priority, as do addition and subtraction; when either pair appears together, work from left to right.
