HISTORIC STORM BATTERS BETHLEHEM & SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES
🌧️🚨 HISTORIC STORM BATTERS BETHLEHEM & SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES 🚒❤️
Wednesday's torrential rain left a trail of flooding and storm damage across Bethlehem, Coeymans, New Scotland, and neighboring communities, keeping first responders busy from the early morning hours through the evening.
In Glenmont, Feura Bush Road near Elsmere Avenue was temporarily closed due to flooding before reopening later in the day. The Bethlehem Town Park on Elm Avenue was also closed as a result of the severe weather, and several homes in the Town of Bethlehem sustained flood-related damage.
The Slingerlands Fire Department responded to numerous calls throughout the day, pumping water from flooded basements across the community. One of the most serious incidents occurred on Wisconsin Avenue, where a home's basement reportedly collapsed.
In Coeymans, emergency crews responded to a home collapse on Miller Road, where occupants became trapped. State fire crews used a rescue boat to safely reach those inside.
Flooding also affected numerous roadways throughout the area, including:
🌊 Feura Bush Road near Elsmere Avenue
🌊 Western Avenue near Stuyvesant Plaza
🌊 Krumkill Road
🌊 Russell Road
🌊 Schoolhouse Road
...and several other local streets where standing and fast-moving water created hazardous travel conditions.
🚒 Firefighters and emergency responders from Bethlehem, Slingerlands, Delmar, Coeymans, New Scotland, and neighboring volunteer fire departments worked tirelessly throughout the storm, responding to rescues, flooded homes, road closures, and countless calls for assistance.
❤️ A heartfelt thank you to all of our volunteer firefighters, EMS personnel, police officers, highway crews, dispatchers, utility workers, and everyone who stepped up to help our communities during this challenging day. Your dedication and teamwork made a tremendous difference.

🚨⚖️ ARREST MADE IN FATAL GLENMONT CRASH INVESTIGATION 🚔🕊️
The Bethlehem Police Department has announced that charges have been filed following its investigation into the fatal crash that occurred on April 27, 2026, at the intersection of Route 9W and Magee Drive in Glenmont.
Following a months-long investigation and crash reconstruction, police arrested the driver of the SUV involved in the collision. Authorities charged the driver with:
🚔 Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs
👶 Two counts of Aggravated DWI with Child Passengers
⚖️ Two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child
According to investigators, the child-related charges stem from two children who were passengers in the SUV at the time of the crash.
Police also announced that a 19-year-old Albany motorcyclist involved in the incident was issued 13 traffic citations related to his operation of the motorcycle and actions investigators determined contributed to the crash. The alleged violations include reckless driving, unsafe lane movement, failure to keep right, driving at an unreasonable speed, and several additional traffic offenses.
The SUV driver was arraigned in Bethlehem Town Court and released on his own recognizance. Both individuals are scheduled to appear in court on August 18, 2026.
Background
The crash occurred on April 27 when an SUV traveling southbound on Route 9W collided with a motorcycle traveling northbound at the intersection with Magee Drive.
The SUV driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Albany Medical Center.
Tragically, 19-year-old Mason Ruggaber of Delmar, who was operating the motorcycle, died at the scene.
Bethlehem Police conducted an extensive crash reconstruction investigation before announcing the charges this week.
❤️ Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Mason Ruggaber, as well as everyone whose lives have been impacted by this tragic incident.

🇺🇸🪂 BETHLEHEM'S OWN EARNS THE ARMY'S SILVER WINGS! 👏🎉
A big congratulations to Bethlehem High School graduate, ROTC cadet, and Elsmere Firefighter Grant Rinckey on achieving another incredible milestone in his military career! 🇺🇸
Grant has officially graduated from the U.S. Army Airborne School at Fort Benning, Georgia, earning the prestigious Silver Wings Airborne Badge after successfully completing one of the military's most demanding training programs.
To earn his wings, Grant completed:
🪂 Five successful parachute jumps from a C-130 aircraft at approximately 1,200 feet
🌙 A nighttime jump
🎒 Jumps while carrying full combat equipment
💪 Three challenging phases of training: Ground Week, Tower Week, and Jump Week
This accomplishment comes just one year after Grant completed Army Air Assault School at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, where he trained in helicopter operations, sling-load procedures, aircraft safety, and rappelling techniques.
Grant's dedication, discipline, and commitment to serving our country continue to make the Bethlehem community proud. His accomplishments also reflect the strong tradition of service shared by the members of the Elsmere Fire Department, where he volunteers to help protect our community.

🧩☕ THURSDAY MORNING MATH PUZZLER SOLVED! ☕🧩

5-Minute Crafts
🧩✅ Thursday Morning Math Puzzler Solution
The expression is:
3 + 3 + 3 × 3 + 3
The key is to remember PEMDAS (or Order of Operations):
P – Parentheses
E – Exponents
MD – Multiplication & Division (left to right)
AS – Addition & Subtraction (left to right)
Step 1: Do the multiplication first
3×3=93 \times 3 = 93×3=9
Now the problem becomes:
3 + 3 + 9 + 3
Step 2: Add from left to right
3 + 3 = 6
6 + 9 = 15
15 + 3 = 18
✅ Final Answer: 18 🎉
💡 Why do some people get it wrong?
Many people simply add the numbers from left to right:
3 + 3 = 6
6 + 3 = 9
9 × 3 = 27
27 + 3 = 30 ❌
That ignores the order of operations. Multiplication must always be completed before addition (unless parentheses tell you otherwise).
📚 Math Tip of the Day
Whenever you see × or ÷ mixed with + or −, pause before adding. Complete all multiplication and division first, then finish with addition and subtraction.
🏆 Correct Answer: 18 ✅
How many people in the comments guessed 30 before remembering PEMDAS? 😄
