🚧🏡 GLENMONT RESIDENTS VOICE CONCERNS OVER PROPOSED ZONING CHANGES 🏡🚧

🚧🏡 GLENMONT RESIDENTS VOICE CONCERNS OVER PROPOSED ZONING CHANGES 🏡🚧

A proposed overhaul of zoning regulations in the Town of Bethlehem is generating significant discussion among Glenmont residents, with many expressing concerns about how future development could impact the character, traffic, and overall feel of their community.

The proposed changes would allow certain residential areas to include small multi-family apartment buildings, with limits on building height, density, and the number of units permitted. Town officials say the goal is to proactively manage growth while establishing clear guidelines for future development.

Many residents who spoke during recent public meetings said they are concerned about increased traffic, pressure on infrastructure, and the potential loss of the hamlet's rural and suburban character. Several community members noted that Glenmont has already experienced substantial residential and commercial growth in recent years.

Town leaders acknowledge that growth remains a challenge facing many communities and say the zoning update is intended to help guide future development responsibly while balancing housing needs, land-use planning, and community preservation.

The discussion drew strong public participation at recent meetings, with residents sharing a wide range of perspectives on how Bethlehem should grow in the years ahead.

📅 A formal public hearing on the proposed zoning changes is expected to take place later this summer, likely in July or August, before any final decisions are made by the Town Board.

💬 What do you think?

Should Bethlehem allow more housing options in Glenmont and other neighborhoods, or should growth be limited to preserve the area's current character?

🚨🚂 WORKER INJURED AT SELKIRK CSX RAIL YARD; SAFETY CONCERNS RAISED 🚂🚨

A worker at the CSX rail yard in Selkirk was injured in a workplace incident on May 24 and transported to Albany Medical Center for treatment.

CSX confirmed that the employee suffered non-life-threatening injuries but did not release additional details regarding the incident.

According to railroad union officials, the employee sustained serious injuries after being struck by a moving rail car. Union representatives have raised concerns about training procedures and staffing practices, alleging that temporary workers assigned to rail yards may be moving through qualification and safety processes too quickly.

CSX has not publicly addressed those specific claims, reiterating that employee and community safety remain the company's top priority.

The Selkirk rail yard is one of the busiest railroad hubs in the Northeast and serves as a major distribution point for vehicles and freight moving throughout New York and New England. The 1,250-acre facility is also classified as a "hump yard," using gravity-assisted rail operations that can present additional operational challenges.

As investigations and discussions continue, the incident has renewed attention on workplace safety, training standards, and operational practices at one of the Capital Region's most significant transportation facilities.

🙏 We wish the injured worker a full and speedy recovery.

Wednesday Morning Math Puzzler Solution

Wednesday Morning Math Puzzler Solution

The problem is:

Many people see the warning "The Answer Is NOT 70!" and get thrown off, but the key is to follow the Order of Operations (PEMDAS).

Step 1: Solve the division first

Dividing by 1/2 is the same as multiplying by 2.

So:

20 ÷ 1/2 = 20 × 2 = 40

Step 2: Add

60 + 40 = 100

🎯 Final Answer: 100

🧠 Teaching Moment

A common mistake is to think:

20 ÷ 2 = 10

and then calculate:

60 + 10 = 70

But 1/2 is not the same as 2.

When you divide by a fraction, you multiply by its reciprocal:

20 ÷ 1/2 = 20 × 2 = 40

Think of it this way:

👉 How many halves are in 20?

There are 40 halves in 20.

That's why the answer is 100, not 70.

📚 Quick Rule to Remember

Dividing by a fraction = multiplying by its reciprocal

Example:

  • 10 ÷ 1/2 = 20

  • 12 ÷ 1/4 = 48

  • 15 ÷ 1/3 = 45

🏆 Wednesday Morning Math Puzzler Answer: 100 🏆
