🏘️🚦 BETHLEHEM ZONING DEBATE DRAWS LARGE CROWD AND STRONG OPINIONS 🚦🏘️

🏘️🚦 BETHLEHEM ZONING DEBATE DRAWS LARGE CROWD AND STRONG OPINIONS 🚦🏘️

A packed Town Board meeting brought out many Bethlehem residents Wednesday evening, with numerous speakers voicing concerns and opposition to proposed zoning changes that could shape the community’s future growth.

The proposed zoning updates are part of the Town of Bethlehem’s broader Comprehensive Plan update and are intended to guide development across the town in the years ahead. One of the most discussed elements involves the potential rezoning a handful of large tracts of currently undeveloped land for mixed-density residential development.

Under the proposal, future housing options could include a mix of single-family homes, duplexes, townhomes, and multi-family residences designed to accommodate a wider range of income levels and housing needs.

Many residents expressed concerns about:

🚗 Increased traffic on already busy roadways
🏫 Potential impacts on local school enrollment
🌳 Loss of farmland, open space, and rural character
🏘️ Preserving neighborhood identity and Bethlehem’s small-town feel

Town planners say the proposal includes design standards intended to create transitions between new developments and existing neighborhoods, including buffers and requirements designed to minimize impacts on surrounding homes.

Officials also noted that property owners already have development rights under current zoning regulations and that any future projects would still require Planning Board review and public input before approval.

Supporters of the planning process argue that growth is inevitable and that updated zoning provides an opportunity to manage development thoughtfully rather than react to it after the fact. They also point to studies indicating that certain multi-family housing developments may generate fewer school-aged children than traditional single-family subdivisions.

As discussions continue, one thing is clear: many Bethlehem residents are deeply engaged in the future of their community and eager to have their voices heard.

🌍 CELEBRATING CULTURE, LEADERSHIP & ACHIEVEMENT: ALANA HONORS CLASS OF 2026 SENIORS 🌍🎓

Bethlehem Central High School recently celebrated a meaningful tradition as members of the Class of 2026 took part in the 7th Annual ALANA Sankofa Ceremony, recognizing their accomplishments, leadership, and cultural heritage as they prepare for graduation.

🧩THURSDAY MORNING MATH PUZZLER SOLVED!🧩

🧩THURSDAY MORNING MATH PUZZLER SOLVED!🧩

The problem is:

8 + 5 × 2 - 3 = ?

Correct Answer: 15

Use the Order of Operations:

1️⃣ Parentheses
2️⃣ Exponents
3️⃣ Multiplication & Division
4️⃣ Addition & Subtraction

Step 1: Multiply first

5 × 2 = 10

Now the problem becomes:

8 + 10 - 3

Step 2: Add and subtract left to right

8 + 10 = 18

18 - 3 = 15

🎯 Final Answer: 15

Why Most People Get It Wrong

Many people solve straight across:

8 + 5 = 13
13 × 2 = 26
26 - 3 = 23

But multiplication must be done before addition and subtraction.
