BIG VISION FOR RAVENA: PROPOSED COMMUNITY CENTER COULD SERVE EVERY GENERATION

🏘️🌟 BIG VISION FOR RAVENA: PROPOSED COMMUNITY CENTER COULD SERVE EVERY GENERATION
RAVENA — A new regional initiative is taking shape with an ambitious goal: create one community hub where children, families, teens, working adults and seniors can learn, connect and grow together. ❤️🤝
Plans are being explored for an Upper Hudson Valley Community Center, which could serve residents throughout the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk, Coxsackie-Athens and Greenville school districts, along with surrounding communities.
The concept is built around bringing generations together rather than creating separate resources for different age groups.
👶 Early childhood & family resources
🎒 After-school & summer youth programs
🤖 STEM and technology labs
🛠️ Workforce & vocational training
💼 Business incubation opportunities
🎨 Arts & performance spaces
❤️ Wellness & telehealth services
👵 Senior activities & social connections
🤝 Meeting and community spaces
🎉 Regional events
🏫 COULD A FORMER RAVENA CHURCH BECOME THE HOME?
One location being considered is the former Grace United Methodist Church property at 16 Hillcrest Drive in Ravena, although organizers say other properties are also being explored.
The project remains in the pre-launch stage, so no final location has been selected.
Organizers are currently meeting with government officials, community organizations and potential partners while investigating funding and property opportunities.
🤝 COLLABORATION — NOT COMPETITION
An important part of the vision is that the center would not replace organizations already serving our communities.
Instead, organizers hope it could become a shared platform where schools, municipalities, libraries, nonprofits, businesses, health-care providers, senior organizations and volunteer groups work together, share resources and potentially expand what they can offer locally.
That could mean a child participating in an educational program, a teenager exploring technology, an adult developing new job skills and a senior enjoying activities and sharing experience — all under one community-centered umbrella. 🌱
📣 COMMUNITY MEETING SEPTEMBER 16
Residents, businesses and community organizations will have an opportunity to hear more about the proposal and participate in the discussion:
📅 Wednesday, September 16
⏰ 5:30 PM
📍 Rail to River Brewing
109 Main Street, Ravena
The meeting is being held with support from the RCS Community Business Association.
Organizers are looking for community partners, volunteers, sponsors, financial support, letters of support and people interested in helping guide the project through a steering committee.
❤️ WHY THIS COULD MATTER TO OUR AREA
For the RCS community and neighboring towns, a successful regional center could provide something increasingly important: more opportunities and services close to home.
Childcare resources, youth activities, workforce development, senior connections and community gathering spaces can all contribute to stronger families and stronger communities.
And although this project is still only in its early stages, September's community meeting gives residents an opportunity to learn about the idea, ask questions and help shape what it could eventually become.
📲 What do you think? Would you like to see a regional, multigenerational community center like this established in Ravena?

WEDNESDAY MORNING
MATH PUZZLER SOLVED!

🧠☕ WEDNESDAY MORNING MATH PUZZLER — HERE’S THE SOLUTION! 💯
Today’s problem is:
5 + 6 × 6 = ?
This one is all about remembering the Order of Operations (PEMDAS). The important rule here is that multiplication comes before addition.
✏️ STEP 1: Multiply first
6 × 6 = 36
Now rewrite the problem:
5 + 36
✏️ STEP 2: Add
5 + 36 = 41
🎯 FINAL ANSWER: 41 ✅
🚨 THE COMMON TRAP
Some people may start on the left and calculate:
5 + 6 = 11
11 × 6 = 66 ❌
But 66 is not correct because multiplication must be completed before addition.
💡 Teaching Tip: If the problem had been written (5 + 6) × 6, the parentheses would change the order and the answer WOULD be 66.
But without parentheses...
🏆 41 IS THE CORRECT ANSWER!
Did you get 41 this morning? 💯🧠
