🐶☀️ DOG DAYS OF SUMMER ARE HERE! 🌡️🚶‍♀️ Beat the Heat with Your Four-Legged Friend! 🐾

The Dog Days of Summer have arrived across the Bethlehem area, and it's the perfect reminder to enjoy the outdoors early in the day before the heat settles in! 🌅🐕

Many local residents are taking advantage of the comfortable mornings, with temperatures in the 60s and low humidity, making it an ideal time for a walk with your favorite furry companion. ❤️🐶

As the week continues, however, temperatures are expected to climb into the upper 80s and mid-90s, bringing summer heat back to the Capital Region. 🌞🥵

⚠️ HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for much of the Capital Region and parts of Vermont.

Forecasters say:
🌡️ Hot and humid conditions will build early this week, peaking on Tuesday.
🥵 Heat Advisories are in effect for valley locations as well as the central and southern Taconic regions.

🐾 Heat Safety Tips for You & Your Pets

Walk dogs early in the morning or later in the evening.
💧 Bring plenty of fresh water.
🌳 Stick to shaded routes whenever possible.
🐾 Avoid hot pavement—it can burn your pet's paws.
🚗 Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle, even for a few minutes.

Enjoy the beautiful summer mornings, stay cool, and help keep your family—and your four-legged friends—safe during this week's heat! ☀️🐕❤️

🇺🇸🏫 DID YOU MAKE IT TO THE SUNDAY FAMILY FUN? WE DID! ❤️📸 RAVENA & COEYMANS CELEBRATE AMERICA'S 250TH! ❤️🤍💙

The Village of Ravena & Town of Coeymans 250th Celebration wrapped up another fantastic day of community fun on Sunday, celebrating America's 250th Anniversary with history, family activities, local landmarks, and hometown pride! ❤️🤍💙

One of our favorite stops was the historic Little Red Schoolhouse in Coeymans Hollow, where visitors stepped back in time to experience what education was like more than a century ago.

🏫 A Piece of Local History

Built in 1879, the Little Red Schoolhouse served generations of local students in grades one through eight before closing in 1957 when the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Central School District expanded.

Thanks to the Little Red Schoolhouse Historical Society, the building was purchased, carefully restored, and preserved to closely resemble its original appearance. Today it features authentic classroom furnishings, a working school bell, an old-fashioned teacher's desk, wood stove, and even the original hand pump organ once used during classroom singing.

The schoolhouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1996 and continues to welcome visitors, school groups, and history enthusiasts while serving as a reminder of our region's rich educational heritage.

During Sunday's celebration, families enjoyed:
🔔 Ringing the historic school bell
🎲 Old-fashioned games
👨‍👩‍👧 Learning about one-room school life
📚 Exploring nearly 150 years of local history

The Little Red Schoolhouse was just one of several wonderful community stops throughout Coeymans Hollow, alongside the Ravena Coeymans Historical Society, Trinity United Methodist Church, Coeymans Hollow Volunteer Fire Company, Alcove Preservation Association, and the Ravena Grange.

👏 A huge thank you to all of the volunteers, historians, and community organizations who helped make the Ravena & Coeymans 250th Celebration such a memorable weekend!

A talented RCS Middle School student is leaving her mark on local history! ❤️🤍💙

As part of the Ravena & Coeymans 250th Celebration, local students were invited to design a commemorative "Pin of Patriotism" honoring America's 250th Anniversary—and one creative entry rose to the top.

🏆 Congratulations to Lauren Robbins, whose patriotic design was selected as the official commemorative pin for the celebration!

Lauren's winning artwork features:
🦅 A majestic bald eagle
🏛️ The White House
🇺🇸 A patriotic red, white, and blue "250"
📅 The anniversary years 1776–2026

The Town of Coeymans recognized Lauren during its June 25 Town Board meeting, where she received several awards celebrating her artistic achievement, including:
🎖️ A Certificate of Excellence
🏅 A commemorative plaque
🖼️ A framed print of her winning design
📌 Several keepsake pins for Lauren and her family

The 250th Celebration Committee partnered with RCS Middle School and teacher Erin Sawyer to encourage students to create original patriotic artwork. Students were given the freedom to let their creativity shine, and Lauren's design stood out among numerous entries.

Hundreds of pins featuring Lauren's artwork were produced and made available during the Ravena & Coeymans 250th Celebration, with proceeds benefiting the St. Patrick's Church Food Pantry—making this project not only a celebration of creativity and patriotism, but also an opportunity to support the local community.

👏 Congratulations again to Lauren Robbins on this outstanding accomplishment! Your creativity, talent, and community spirit have helped create a lasting keepsake commemorating an important milestone in our nation's history.

❤️ Great job representing the RCS community!

🧩☕ MONDAY MORNING MATH PUZZLER SOLVED! ☕🧩

🧩MONDAY MORNING MATH PUZZLER SOLVED!🧩

Did you beat the 5-second challenge? 🤔⏱️

The problem is:

100 − 20 × 4 + 10 = ?

Step 1: Follow the Order of Operations (PEMDAS/BODMAS)

Remember:

🔹 Multiplication and Division come before Addition and Subtraction.

So first solve:

20 × 4 = 80

Now the equation becomes:

100 − 80 + 10

Step 2: Work Left to Right

Now complete the addition and subtraction from left to right:

  • 100 − 80 = 20

  • 20 + 10 = 30

🎉 Final Answer: 30

📚 Teaching Tip

A common mistake is to solve the equation from left to right immediately:

100 − 20 = 80
80 × 4 = 320 (Incorrect!)

That's because multiplication must always be completed before addition and subtraction.

The correct order is:

100 − 20 × 4 + 10
⬇️
100 − 80 + 10
⬇️
20 + 10
⬇️
30

🧠 Quick Reminder

Think PEMDAS:

  • Parentheses

  • Exponents

  • Multiplication & Division (left to right)

  • Addition & Subtraction (left to right)

Following this order will help you solve these puzzles correctly every time!

👏 Did you get 30 on your first try, or did this one trick you? Let us know in the comments! 💬🧩🎉
