⚛️💡 DOES NUCLEAR ENERGY HAVE A ROLE IN NEW YORK'S FUTURE? 💡⚛️
A major debate is once again taking shape in New York—and it could impact everything from electric bills to air quality and the state's climate goals.
🏭 The discussion centers around Indian Point, the nuclear power plant on the Hudson River that was shut down in 2021 after years of political, environmental, and safety concerns.
Before it closed, Indian Point supplied roughly 25% of New York City's electricity and was one of the state's largest sources of carbon-free energy. ⚡
Since its closure, supporters of nuclear power point to several developments:
📈 Increased reliance on fossil fuel power plants
💰 Higher energy costs
🏭 Increased emissions from natural gas facilities
🌎 Challenges in meeting New York's climate goals
According to recent reports, approximately 92% of the clean energy lost when Indian Point closed has been replaced by fossil fuel generation, reigniting questions about whether shutting down the plant was the right decision.
Supporters argue:
✅ Nuclear power provides reliable, around-the-clock electricity
✅ It produces virtually no carbon emissions during operation
✅ Reopening Indian Point could reduce dependence on fossil fuels
✅ It could help stabilize energy prices and improve grid reliability
Opponents argue:
⚠️ Safety concerns remain significant
⚠️ The plant is located near millions of residents
⚠️ Nuclear waste disposal remains unresolved
⚠️ The facility has a long history of controversy and regulatory issues
Governor Kathy Hochul has said she does not support reopening Indian Point and instead favors building next-generation nuclear facilities elsewhere in New York.
Meanwhile, others argue that the state should focus on expanding:
☀️ Solar Energy
🌬️ Wind Power
🔋 Battery Storage
💧 Hydropower
⚛️ Advanced Nuclear Technologies
With New York pursuing ambitious clean energy goals while trying to keep electricity affordable and reliable, the conversation surrounding nuclear energy is likely to continue for years to come.
Oswego NY Could become the location of a New Nuclear Power Station proposed by the Governor.

⚛️ Should nuclear energy play a larger role in New York's energy future?

The students of Starbees at Pieter B. Coeymans Elementary School are proving that even the smallest acts can make a big difference! 🐝✨
Over the past few months, the student-run life skills program raised an incredible $1,000 and proudly donated it to the Albany VA, a charitable organization chosen by the students themselves. 🎉💙
Through Starbees, students gain valuable real-world skills by serving coffee, tea, and hot chocolate to staff each Friday morning. Along the way, they learn:
☕ Customer Service
🗣️ Communication Skills
➕ Math Skills
🤝 Social Skills
❤️ The Importance of Giving Back
Recently, students presented their donation to Jason Goman of the Albany VA. Helping with the special presentation were student volunteers Caileigh and Gianna.
🇺🇸 One particularly touching moment came when Gianna wore her grandfather's military dog tag during the presentation. A Vietnam veteran who benefited from VA services, his dog tag served as a powerful reminder of the impact the Albany VA has on veterans and their families.
🌟 The Starbees program continues to be a shining example of how students can learn valuable life skills while making a positive difference in their community.
👏 Congratulations to the entire Starbees team on another successful year of learning, service, and generosity!
❤️ Bethlehem Local News applauds these outstanding students for their hard work and commitment to supporting those who have served our country.

Monday Morning Math Puzzler

The riddle is:
12 + 12 + 12 + 12 × 0 = ?
The key is order of operations.
Step 1: Do multiplication first
12 × 0 = 0
Now the problem becomes:
12 + 12 + 12 + 0
Step 2: Add
12 + 12 + 12 = 36
✅ Correct Answer: 36
The common mistake is adding all the 12s first and then multiplying by zero. But because there are no parentheses, multiplication comes before addition.
So the answer is 36 — enjoy the designer shoes! 👠🎉
