🏆💚 💛 A LEGACY THAT WILL LIVE ON AT RCS! VANDERZEE FIELD & RACEY ROAD HONOR TWO RAVENS LEGENDS! 🏈🏐🏃

Two men who spent decades helping shape Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk athletics — and generations of RCS student-athletes — have received permanent honors on the campus they served for so many years.

The RCS community gathered Friday, September 25, before the varsity football game to recognize longtime coaches Gary VanDerzee and Ron Racey for their extraordinary contributions to RCS athletics, students and families.

The honors followed a new district policy establishing a formal process for naming RCS facilities. According to Superintendent Craig Chandler, both nominations received enthusiastic recommendations before being unanimously approved by the RCS Board of Education. 👏

🏈 WELCOME TO GARY VANDERZEE FIELD

The RCS stadium and field will carry the name of legendary football coach Gary VanDerzee, whose remarkable 41-year tenure as head coach stretched from 1982 through 2023.

His accomplishments include:

🏆 7 Section 2 Class B championships
🏆 12 league championships
🏈 State semifinal appearances
⭐ 261 career victories
📋 RCS Athletic Director from 1999–2005
🏈 NYSPHSAA State Football Coordinator since 2014

VanDerzee also coached wrestling, baseball and bowling during his extensive career at RCS.

As part of the dedication, the district unveiled a plaque that will be placed on the concession stand to welcome visitors to Gary VanDerzee Field. Plans for the upcoming field replacement were also presented.

🚦🏐 RACEY ROAD BECOMES PART OF THE RCS CAMPUS

Longtime coach Ron Racey received his own permanent place in RCS history with the dedication of Racey Road, along with a commemorative plaque.

Racey's tremendous coaching career included:

🏐 4 sectional volleyball championships
🏆 3 regional volleyball championships
⭐ 3 state semifinal appearances
🏃 3 Colonial Council boys cross country championships
🏃‍♂️ 3 Colonial Council boys outdoor track & field championships

Racey also served as an RCS athletic director and coached women's volleyball at Siena University, where his teams won five Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championships.

❤️ MORE THAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

The evening wasn't simply about wins, trophies and records.

For decades, VanDerzee and Racey served as coaches, mentors, educators and leaders, helping shape RCS athletic programs while influencing the lives of countless students.

Both men addressed the community during the ceremony, reflecting on their careers, their friendship and what it means to have these places permanently bear their names.

Students, alumni, colleagues, families and community members were there to share in the celebration — and the night of Ravens pride wasn't finished yet. 🐦‍⬛

🏈 The RCS Varsity Football team capped off the evening with a victory, while an extended halftime program recognized RCS fall athletes.

👏 Congratulations to Gary VanDerzee and Ron Racey on these tremendous and well-deserved honors!

Long after the final whistle, the lessons and traditions these two coaches helped establish will continue — and future generations of Ravens will see their names every time they arrive at Gary VanDerzee Field or travel down Racey Road. 💚 💛

That's a legacy. That's RCS pride. 🏆🐦‍⬛

The Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Boys Varsity Soccer Team battled South Glens Falls on the road Monday, with neither team able to break the deadlock as the match ended in a 2-2 tie. ⚽️🤝

The result moves the Ravens to 2-3-2 on the season as they look to build some momentum heading into the next stretch of their schedule.

Today’s problem is:

66 + 66 ÷ 66

The key is remembering PEMDAS / Order of Operations. We do not simply work from left to right because division must be completed before addition.

66 ÷ 66 = 1

Now the expression becomes:

66 + 1

66 + 1 = 67

A common mistake would be to add 66 + 66 = 132 first and then divide by 66, giving an answer of 2.

But there are no parentheses telling us to add first. Under the order of operations, division comes before addition, so 67 is the correct answer.

Did you get 67 before checking the solution? 👇😁
