DELMAR’S FOUR CORNERS IS BOOMING: NEW BUSINESSES BRING FRESH ENERGY TO THE HEART OF TOWN

🏘️🍔🍦 DELMAR’S FOUR CORNERS IS BOOMING: NEW BUSINESSES BRING FRESH ENERGY TO THE HEART OF TOWN! 🛍️

DELMAR — There’s a lot happening at Four Corners this summer, and the longtime heart of Delmar is looking especially lively. ❤️

According to reporting by the Spotlight News, Bethlehem Senior Economic Developer Brianne Conner says that, with the exception of the former Swifty’s property, there are currently no vacant storefronts in the Four Corners area.

That’s an encouraging sign for one of Bethlehem’s most recognizable business districts. 📈👏

Longtime favorites like McCarroll’s, Perfect Blend, I Love Books and Wildbird Junction are now joined by newer businesses including Stacked Grill, Delmar Scoop and Cora Muse, creating an increasingly diverse mix of restaurants, retail, services and specialty shops.

🚶‍♀️ WHY FOUR CORNERS?

Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce President Michelle Charpentier points to the area’s combination of vehicle traffic, pedestrian activity, accessibility and walkability as important ingredients in its success.

And that's one of the things that makes Four Corners unique: you can grab something to eat 🍔, walk over for ice cream 🍦, browse a bookstore 📚, visit one of the specialty shops 🛍️ and support several locally owned businesses without moving your car.

Even 345 Delaware Avenue, a former two-story office building, is reportedly filling up with wellness-oriented businesses offering services ranging from physical therapy and spa treatments to healing services and esthetics.

🍔🍦 NEWCOMERS REPORT STRONG COMMUNITY SUPPORT

Stacked Grill, which took over the former FoCo Taco location, has been serving up American favorites including smash burgers and fries. Co-owner Christ Stewart reports that the response has been strong, with additional menu offerings planned for the fall.

Across Four Corners, Delmar Scoop has also been keeping busy. Owner Cara Bashant says popular flavors such as coffee heath bar, birthday cake and salted caramel brownie can require multiple fresh batches in a single day. 😋🍨

Perhaps just as important is the cooperation happening among neighboring businesses — from collaborations with Art Stars to McCarroll’s helping accommodate Delmar Scoop customers with parking.

That kind of businesses-supporting-businesses spirit is exactly what makes a hometown commercial district special. ❤️🏘️

🦌🍻 MORE IS COMING...

Just down Delaware Avenue, Tipsy Moose, which is replacing 333 Restaurant, has begun patio work and its interior buildout. Conner expects the restaurant to open this fall.

Another taproom is also expected to eventually replace the former Real McCoy brewery location on Hallwood Road, pending its liquor license.

One big question remains:

🏢 What will happen with the former Swifty’s property?

For now, its future remains uncertain. Filling that prominent location could provide yet another boost to activity at Four Corners.

But even with that one vacancy, the overall picture this summer is one of growth, investment and renewed activity in Downtown Delmar. 🙌

❤️ SHOP LOCAL. EAT LOCAL. SUPPORT LOCAL.

Every meal, ice cream cone, book, gift and purchase made at a locally owned business helps keep dollars circulating in our community and contributes to the character that makes Bethlehem feel like home.

👇 What’s your favorite stop at Four Corners — and what type of business would YOU like to see eventually move into the former Swifty’s location?

FALSE FLASH FLOOD ALERT HITS PHONES ACROSS THE REGION — AGENCIES INVESTIGATING

Lake Stuyvasant

🚨📱 FALSE FLASH FLOOD ALERT HITS PHONES ACROSS THE REGION — AGENCIES INVESTIGATING 🌤️❓

ALBANY, NY — If you received a frightening flash flood warning on your phone Wednesday despite looking outside and seeing clear skies, you weren't alone.

Some residents across the Capital Region and Hudson Valley received an apparent erroneous emergency alert Wednesday warning that a flash flood warning was in effect until 3:30 p.m. The message reportedly described dangerous conditions and advised people against unnecessary travel.

There was just one major problem: there was no flash flood threat. 🌤️

According to reporting by the Times Union, several county emergency management offices confirmed that residents in their areas received the outdated warning.

The New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services subsequently contacted both the National Weather Service and FEMA, which administers the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System, so the source of the alert could be investigated.

🌧️ THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAYS IT DIDN'T ISSUE IT

The National Weather Service in Albany reported that skies were clear at the time and that weather conditions did not support a flash flood warning.

Meteorologists were also working to determine where the alert originated.

That distinction is important because a legitimate Flash Flood Warning means flooding is occurring or imminent and residents should take the warning seriously.

📲 A screenshot shared online reportedly showed the alert arriving around 10:46 a.m. Wednesday, August 19, describing the situation as dangerous and life-threatening and advising against unnecessary travel.

🔎 SO WHAT HAPPENED?

That's the question investigators are now trying to answer.

At this point, the information provided does not establish exactly why the outdated warning was distributed or which part of the emergency-alert system caused it to reach phones.

Emergency alerts can provide critical, potentially life-saving information during severe weather and other emergencies, making it especially important that officials determine what happened and prevent similar false alerts in the future.

👉 DID YOU GET THE FALSE FLOOD WARNING?
We're curious how widespread it was locally. Tell us in the comments what town you were in when the alert appeared on your phone. 📱👇

THURSDAY MORNING

MATH PUZZLER SOLVED!

🧠 THURSDAY MORNING MATH PUZZLER — DID YOU GET IT RIGHT? 🤔🔥

Today’s problem is:

9 + 7 × 6 + 4!

This one has TWO potential traps: multiplication and the factorial symbol (!). 😎

✏️ STEP 1: Factorial comes first

The ! after a number means factorial.

4! = 4 × 3 × 2 × 1 = 24

So our problem becomes:

9 + 7 × 6 + 24

✏️ STEP 2: Do multiplication before addition

Using the order of operations (PEMDAS):

7 × 6 = 42

Now we have:

9 + 42 + 24

✏️ STEP 3: Add from left to right

9 + 42 = 51

51 + 24 = 75

🎯 FINAL ANSWER: 75

The key is remembering that 4! does NOT mean 4 and it doesn't mean excitement either! 😂 The exclamation point has a special mathematical meaning: factorial.

👉 Did you get 75 on your first try?

And if you got a different answer, tell us what you got — these puzzlers are about having some fun while keeping those math skills sharp! 🧠💪
