A familiar face in the Delmar and Bethlehem community is taking on a new public-service role.

Thomas “Tom” Pratt of Menands has been appointed to fill a vacancy as an Albany County Coroner following a vote by the Albany County Legislature.

For many Bethlehem-area residents, Tom may be best known through Applebee Funeral Home in Delmar, where he serves as a co-owner and licensed funeral director. Applebee Funeral Home has served Delmar, the Town of Bethlehem and surrounding Albany County communities for generations. Applebee Funeral Home

Tom will continue his work at Applebee Funeral Home while also serving in his new county role.

For a local business with such longstanding ties to the Bethlehem community, it's a noteworthy milestone and another way one of its owners will be serving families throughout Albany County.

⚖️🚨 SENTENCING DELAYED IN FATAL GLENMONT MOTORCYCLE CRASH CASE 🏍️

GLENMONT, N.Y. — The sentencing of a Ravena man who previously pleaded guilty in connection with a 2025 crash that killed a motorcyclist on Route 9W has been postponed as the court considers whether the terms of his plea agreement were violated.

Jacob Snide had been scheduled for sentencing Friday after pleading guilty to second-degree manslaughter in the death of Patrick LaFortune Jr.

According to prosecutors, Snide was driving recklessly on Route 9W near Corning Hill Road in Glenmont when his vehicle crossed the centerline and struck LaFortune’s motorcycle. LaFortune was transported to Albany Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.

Snide had been facing an anticipated sentence of four to 12 years in state prison under the plea agreement.

⚖️ WHY WAS SENTENCING POSTPONED?

According to the Albany County District Attorney’s Office, the judge now wants to hold a hearing to determine whether Snide violated the conditions of that agreement.

Prosecutors allege Snide provided false information during an interview with probation officials as part of the pre-sentence investigation. The court has not yet determined whether a violation occurred.

If the plea agreement is affected, second-degree manslaughter carries a maximum sentence of five to 15 years in prison.

ALBANY, N.Y. — A small single-engine propeller plane went off a runway at Albany International Airport Saturday morning, but fortunately, neither of the two people aboard was injured.

According to an airport spokesperson, the aircraft landed on Runway 28 shortly before 9:30 AM when the pilot lost control. The plane left the runway and eventually came to a stop within an airport safety area.

👥 Two people were aboard — the pilot and one passenger — and no injuries were reported.

Airport officials said the exact cause remains under investigation, with a possible nose gear collapse among the circumstances being examined.

✈️ The aircraft was subsequently towed to the airport's T-hangar area.

🕚 After crews cleared debris, Runway 28 reopened shortly before 11:15 AM.

Importantly for travelers, airport officials reported that commercial airline operations were not affected, as commercial flights were using Runways 1 and 19.

A potentially frightening situation with a fortunate outcome for those aboard.

What a match between two local rivals! The Voorheesville Varsity Girls Volleyball Team needed all five sets Wednesday night to get past Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk, earning a hard-fought 3-2 victory.

The Ravens grabbed the opening set before Voorheesville answered by taking the next two. RCS refused to go away, winning a tight fourth set to force the decisive fifth.

🔥 With everything riding on the final set, the Blackbirds took control and closed out the match 15-7.

The victory gives Voorheesville two straight wins and improves the Blackbirds to 3-1 on the season. It was also their second victory over RCS this season after winning their earlier meeting 3-0.

For the Ravens, the loss snaps a three-match home winning streak and moves their record to 4-3.

Now:

Step 3 — Add:
