🏘️📋 BETHLEHEM ZONING UPDATE: TOWN BOARD HITS PAUSE UNTIL SEPTEMBER ⏸️🍂

🏘️📋 BETHLEHEM ZONING UPDATE: TOWN BOARD HITS PAUSE UNTIL SEPTEMBER ⏸️🍂
The Town of Bethlehem has announced it is pausing the current zoning code update process following extensive community feedback received over the past several months.
Town officials said they have carefully considered not only the comments submitted by residents, but also the concerns behind those comments. Rather than moving forward with the proposal in its current form, the Town Board will use the summer months to review key elements of the draft and develop recommendations before reconvening in early September.
🗣️ What This Means
✅ The zoning proposal will not move forward as currently written.
⏸️ The review process is being paused for the summer.
📅 The Town Board plans to resume discussions in early September with recommendations that reflect many of the themes raised by residents.
Officials also expressed appreciation to the hundreds of community members who have:
🏡 Attended public meetings
💬 Submitted comments
🤝 Participated in the zoning review process
They noted that public participation has played an important role in shaping the ongoing discussion.
As the review continues, residents can expect additional information and updates when the Town Board reconvenes this fall.

⚡🔌 POWERING THROUGH SUMMER: NEW YORK SAYS ELECTRIC GRID READY FOR THE HEAT! 🌞❄️

⚡🔌 POWERING THROUGH SUMMER: NEW YORK SAYS ELECTRIC GRID READY FOR THE HEAT! 🌞❄️
As temperatures climb across New York, many residents are wondering if the electric grid can keep up with heavy air conditioning use. According to a new report from the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO), the answer is yes—the state is expected to have enough electricity to meet this summer's demand under normal conditions.
📊 Here's what the report found:
⚡ New York is projected to have a 417-megawatt reliability buffer above expected peak electricity demand this summer.
🌡️ Peak demand is forecast to reach approximately 31,578 megawatts, slightly higher than last summer but still below the all-time statewide summer record set in 2013.
🏭 While several fossil fuel power plants have retired and a wind facility has closed, new renewable energy projects and battery storage systems are helping replace some of that lost generating capacity.
🔋 Major transmission improvements—including the newly completed Champlain Hudson Power Express, which delivers Canadian hydropower into New York—are increasing the amount of electricity that can reach the Hudson Valley and New York City.
⚠️ The report also notes that some localized bottlenecks and equipment limitations remain, meaning grid operators will continue monitoring conditions closely during periods of extreme heat or unexpected equipment outages.
💡 To further strengthen the system, New York has announced $24 million in funding for technologies designed to improve the efficiency and reliability of existing power lines.
🏡 What this means for Bethlehem and the Capital Region:
Residents should still do their part to conserve electricity during periods of extreme heat by:
✅ Setting thermostats a few degrees higher when possible
✅ Running major appliances during off-peak hours
✅ Closing blinds and curtains during the hottest part of the day
✅ Turning off unnecessary lights and electronics
With hot weather expected to continue this summer, every little bit helps reduce stress on the electric grid while keeping everyone comfortable.

🧩☕ THURSDAY MORNING MATH PUZZLER SOLVED! ☕🧩

🧩☕ THURSDAY MORNING MATH PUZZLER SOLVED! ☕🧩
The problem is:
50 + 5 × 0 + 6 + 4 = ?
✅ Step 1: Use Order of Operations
Multiplication comes before addition.
So first:
5 × 0 = 0
Now the problem becomes:
50 + 0 + 6 + 4
✅ Step 2: Add
50 + 0 = 50
50 + 6 = 56
56 + 4 = 60
🎯 Final Answer: 60
📚 Teaching Tip
A common mistake is adding everything first and then multiplying by zero.
But only the 5 is multiplied by 0.
So:
50 + 5 × 0 + 6 + 4
= 50 + 0 + 6 + 4
= 60 ✅
