Exciting progress is happening at North Bethlehem Park as construction has officially begun on a brand-new ADA-accessible playground designed to provide a fun and inclusive experience for children of all abilities!
๐ทโโ๏ธ Construction is now underway, and residents may notice limited access to portions of the park during the day. The park will also be closed each evening throughout the construction period to ensure safety for workers and visitors.
The previous playground was removed in Fall 2025 due to safety concerns, and many families have been eagerly awaiting its replacement. Now, that wait is finally coming to an end!
โจ Project Highlights:
โ
New ADA-accessible playground equipment
โ
Inclusive design for children of all abilities
โ
Modern, safer play features
โ
Expected completion by early July
The new playground represents an important investment in creating recreational spaces that are welcoming and accessible to everyone in our community.
๐๏ธ While construction may cause temporary inconveniences, the result will be a beautiful new play area that local families can enjoy for years to come.

๐ฅโ ๏ธ IMPORTANT HEALTH INSURANCE ALERT FOR THOUSANDS OF NEW YORKERS โ ๏ธ๐ฅ

๐ฅโ ๏ธ IMPORTANT HEALTH INSURANCE ALERT FOR THOUSANDS OF NEW YORKERS โ ๏ธ๐ฅ
If you receive health insurance through New Yorkโs Essential Plan 200-250, there is an important deadline quickly approaching that could impact your health coverage.
๐ The Essential Plan 200-250 program is ending on June 30, 2026, due to changes in federal funding.
While Essential Plan options 1 through 4 will continue, individuals currently enrolled in the 200-250 plan must take action to avoid a gap in coverage.
๐ According to state officials, approximately 450,000 New Yorkers are enrolled in the Essential Plan 200-250 statewide, including roughly 140,000 Fidelis Care members who will be affected by the change.
๐จ The key date to remember is June 15.
Why June 15?
โ
It's the last day to apply for replacement coverage that can begin on July 1
โ
Missing the deadline could result in a gap in health insurance coverage
โ
Continuous coverage is especially important for individuals receiving ongoing medical care, prescriptions, or treatment
Those affected should:
๐ป Visit the New York State of Health Marketplace
๐ Complete a new application or update their existing account
๐ Review eligibility for other coverage options, including:
โข Medicaid
โข Other Essential Plan options
โข Qualified Health Plans through the Marketplace
Fidelis Care and other insurers are also assisting members through the transition process.
โค๏ธ Health insurance is something many of us don't think about until we need it. If you, a family member, friend, or neighbor are enrolled in the Essential Plan 200-250, now is the time to review your options before the June 15 deadline arrives.
๐ข Please consider sharing this informationโit may help someone avoid losing their health coverage.
๐ฌ Were you aware of this upcoming change? Have you already explored your coverage options?

โก๐ NEW YORK'S POWER GRID UNDER PRESSURE: WHAT IT COULD MEAN FOR YOUR ELECTRIC BILL โ ๏ธ๐

โก๐ NEW YORK'S POWER GRID UNDER PRESSURE: WHAT IT COULD MEAN FOR YOUR ELECTRIC BILL โ ๏ธ๐
A new report from the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) is raising concerns about the future reliability of New York's electric grid as growing demand, aging power plants, extreme weather, and proposed data centers place increasing pressure on the system.
๐ According to NYISO's newly released Power Trends 2026 report:
โก New York has lost approximately 1.5 gigawatts of electricity generation capacity since 2019
โ๏ธ Winter weather is becoming one of the biggest threats to grid reliability
๐ก๏ธ Extreme cold and extreme heat are pushing the system closer to its limits
๐ญ More than 50 proposed high-demand projects, including AI data centers and semiconductor facilities, are seeking connections to the grid
๐ Aging power plants are becoming less reliable as they approach or exceed 50 years in operation
The report warns that localized power shortages and transmission challenges could emerge as early as Summer 2026 if supply struggles to keep pace with demand.
๐ป One of the biggest debates involves the growing number of proposed data centers, which require enormous amounts of electricity to power artificial intelligence systems, cloud computing, and digital infrastructure.
Closer to home, many Bethlehem residents have recently been following discussions surrounding the proposed Kenwood technology campus, which includes a planned data center component. Community members have raised questions about power usage, water demand, environmental impacts, and long-term effects on utility costs.
๐ There was also encouraging news.
New York recently set a new solar generation record, with solar power providing nearly 29% of statewide electricity demand during peak production on June 3. Much of that energy came from rooftop solar systems installed by homeowners across the state.
๐๏ธ Meanwhile, state leaders continue debating the future energy mix:
๐น More renewable energy projects
๐น Continued use of natural gas generation
๐น Proposed expansion of nuclear power
๐น Potential restrictions on new data centers while their impacts are studied
Governor Kathy Hochul has proposed developing at least one gigawatt of new advanced nuclear power in Upstate New York, while some environmental groups are urging a pause on new nuclear projects.
๐ก The bottom line: New York's energy future is becoming one of the state's biggest challenges as officials work to balance reliability, affordability, economic development, and clean energy goals.
๐ฌ What do you think?
Should New York prioritize:
โ๏ธ Nuclear power?
โ๏ธ Solar and wind?
๐ฅ Natural gas?
๐ป Limits on large data centers?
