🏗️🏡 BIG CHANGES COMING TO NEW YORK HOUSING DEVELOPMENT? ⚖️🌳

Governor Kathy Hochul has signed a major overhaul of New York’s environmental review process, a move supporters say could help address the state's housing shortage and speed up long-delayed infrastructure projects. 👀

The changes modify portions of New York’s State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA), a law that has guided environmental reviews for development projects since 1975.

Supporters argue the current process has:
🏠 Delayed housing construction
💰 Increased development costs
📉 Reduced housing supply
🚧 Slowed infrastructure improvements

According to state officials, it can take up to 56% longer to build projects in New York than in many comparable states.

Key changes include:
✅ Streamlined reviews for certain housing projects on previously developed land
✅ Faster approval timelines
✅ Exemptions for some housing, school, park, trail, sewer, and energy-efficiency projects
✅ A requirement that environmental reviews generally be completed within two years

Supporters, including housing advocates and many local leaders, believe the reforms could help increase housing availability and affordability throughout New York. 🏘️

However, critics warn the changes could weaken environmental protections and reduce opportunities for communities to challenge developments they believe may impact wetlands, wildlife habitats, or neighborhood character. 🌿⚠️

🥍🦅 EAGLES' PLAYOFF RUN COMES TO AN END — THANK YOU FOR A GREAT SEASON! 🧡🖤

The Bethlehem Central Eagles Varsity Boys Lacrosse team saw its impressive 2026 season come to a close on Wednesday in the Section 2 Class B Semifinals.

The #3-seeded Eagles battled hard against #2 Ballston Spa before falling by a score of 16-5.

🏆 Final Record:
🦅 8-9 Overall
🥍 5-6 League Record
📍 Section 2 Class B Semifinalists

While the season may be over, this team showed tremendous heart, determination, and resilience throughout the year. From exciting victories to a deep sectional playoff run, the Eagles gave the Bethlehem community plenty to cheer about all spring long! 👏

A special congratulations goes out to the seniors, players, coaches, families, and supporters who helped make this season a success. Your hard work, commitment, and school pride did not go unnoticed. 💪🧡🖤

On Thursday, May 28, the #1-seeded Eagles powered past #4 Niskayuna with an impressive 12-7 victory in the Section 2 Class B Semifinals. 💪🥍

With the win, Bethlehem advances to the Section 2 Class B Championship Game, where they will take on #3 Queensbury with a title on the line! 🏆
