📢🏡 BETHLEHEM ZONING UPDATE OCT 2ND: RESIDENTIAL A & B DISTRICTS TO REMAIN UNDER CURRENT ZONING RULES

There’s an important new development in the Town of Bethlehem’s ongoing Zoning Code Update.

According to the Town’s October 2 project update, the Town Board directed the Planning Department in September to revise the proposal involving the proposed Low Density Residential (LDR) district. Under the revised approach, the existing Residential A and Residential B districts would remain unchanged and continue to operate under their current zoning regulations.

The Town has now prepared documentation identifying the specific modifications needed to reflect that direction. The broader zoning update has been under review for several years and has included public meetings and resident comments. Town of Bethlehem

📅 WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

The Town Board is scheduled to consider the modifications on Wednesday, October 14. The meeting agenda packet is expected to include the complete modified Zoning Code Update, with revisions shown through redlining.

⚠️ Important clarification: The Town Board is NOT scheduled to vote on final approval or rejection of the Zoning Code Update on October 14.

Instead, the Board is scheduled to vote on whether to hold a Public Hearing on November 10 regarding the modified proposal.

👀 For residents who have been following the zoning discussion, the October 14 meeting should provide a much clearer look at exactly what would change — and what would remain as it is today.

🍫👩‍🍳 FROM BCHS TO THE CULINARY INSTITUTE OF AMERICA! ALUM RETURNS TO SHARE THE SCIENCE OF FLAVOR! 🦅🍴

Bethlehem Central High School students got a taste of what a future in the culinary world could look like when BCHS alum Emily Crandall returned to her former school for a special classroom visit! 🎓✨

Crandall, a 2017 BCHS graduate, now works as an admissions counselor at the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) in Hyde Park. Family and Consumer Science teacher Lindsey Bradt arranged the Sept. 30 visit for students in her Culinary Arts classes.

👩‍🍳 Students learned about CIA degree programs, campus life, hands-on training, internships and potential careers throughout the culinary and hospitality industries.

But this wasn't just about college and careers — there was some delicious science involved, too! 🧪🍫

Students explored the five basic tastes — sweet, sour, salty, bitter and umami — and learned how aroma and texture work together to create the much broader experience we know as flavor.

🍫 Then came the hands-on portion: an interactive chocolate tasting! Students compared white, milk and dark chocolate while examining differences in sweetness, texture and flavor.

Crandall also represented the Culinary Institute of America during the high school's College Fair later that day.

👏 A great example of a Bethlehem graduate returning to inspire the next generation of Eagles while connecting classroom learning with real-world educational and career opportunities.

Thank you to Emily Crandall and Lindsey Bradt for bringing this memorable learning experience to BCHS! 🦅❤️

🤝💜 STUDENTS SUPPORTING STUDENTS: VOORHEESVILLE’S “SOURCES OF STRENGTH” BUILDS CONNECTION & RESILIENCE 🐦‍⬛🤝💜

At Voorheesville Central School District, students are taking an active role in promoting mental wellness, building connections and helping their classmates recognize the people and resources they can turn to during difficult times.

The district’s Sources of Strength suicide prevention program is largely student-driven, with trained peer leaders working alongside school counselors and social workers to bring its message to their classmates.

💪 At the center of the program is a Circle of Strengths focused on eight areas that can help young people build resilience: physical health, mental health, family support, positive friends, mentors, healthy activities, generosity and spirituality.

School Counselor Kristen Heyde and School Social Worker Mariel Chu explained to NEWS10 that students receive training through the national Sources of Strength organization and then help bring those lessons into everyday school life.

🏀🏃 And the program isn't limited to classroom discussions. Peer leaders organize activities such as basketball and dodgeball tournaments, along with programs encouraging students to identify trusted mentors and recognize their own support networks.

The goal is to make conversations about mental wellness, seeking support and relying on positive relationships a normal part of the school community — while giving students opportunities to have fun and connect with one another. 💜

👏 Kudos to Voorheesville's peer leaders, counselors, social workers and everyone involved in creating opportunities for students to support one another and build stronger connections.

Today’s problem is:

2 + 52 + 2 × 52

The key is remembering the Order of Operations. Multiplication comes before addition.

2 × 52 = 104

Now the expression becomes:

2 + 52 + 104

2 + 52 = 54

54 + 104 = 158

A common mistake would be to simply work from left to right and add before multiplying. Remember PEMDAS:

P – Parentheses
E – Exponents
M/D – Multiplication & Division
A/S – Addition & Subtraction

So whenever multiplication and addition appear together, take care of the multiplication first!

👏 If you got 158, you nailed Friday’s Math Puzzler!

Did you get it right before checking the answer? Let us know! 👇🧮
