Students across the Bethlehem Central School District recently blasted off into an unforgettable astronomy adventure thanks to the arrival of the immersive Starlab portable planetarium! 🌌🪐
Third graders had the chance to step inside the inflatable dome classroom and explore the wonders of the night sky in a hands-on, interactive learning experience that brought science, storytelling, and culture together in an exciting way. 🌠📚
Before entering the dome, students learned how to identify constellations using constellation tubes and rotating sky models while discovering how stars appear to move around Polaris — the North Star. They also explored how constellations shift with the seasons and over time. ⭐🧭
Inside the Starlab dome, students viewed a realistic projection of the northern hemisphere sky and learned astronomy terms like:
🔹 Zenith
🔹 Horizon
🔹 Asterism
The experience also included the Indigenous legend “How Hummingbird Created the Stars,” helping students understand how cultures throughout history used stories to explain the night sky. Students later explored Greek mythology and constellation stories projected overhead inside the dome. 🌌🦅📖
Starlab transforms classrooms into immersive 360-degree learning environments, making astronomy come alive for young learners in a truly memorable way. 🚀✨
A big THANK YOU to teachers Rebecca Beiter, Cynthia Reiss, Lindsey Mooney, and Luca Renz for organizing and leading these stellar educational experiences for BC students! 👏🌟
