Bethlehem Police Chief Gina Cocchiara Announces Run for Albany County Sheriff

👮♀️🗳️ Bethlehem Police Chief Gina Cocchiara Announces Run for Albany County Sheriff 🗳️👮♀️
A familiar face in Bethlehem law enforcement is taking the next step in her public service career.
Bethlehem Police Chief Gina Cocchiara has officially announced her candidacy for Albany County Sheriff, filing the necessary paperwork with the Albany County Board of Elections following last week's announcement that longtime Sheriff Craig Apple will not seek another term.
Chief Cocchiara, a Democrat, is among the first candidates to enter the race, with the election scheduled for 2027.
👮♀️ A Career of Service
Chief Cocchiara has served the Bethlehem Police Department for more than two decades. She was appointed Police Chief in 2020, following the retirement of longtime Chief Louis Corsi, after spending 22 years rising through the ranks of the department.
🚔 A New Chapter for Albany County
Current Sheriff Craig Apple has served with the Albany County Sheriff's Office since 1987 and has held the county's top law enforcement position since 2011. His decision not to seek reelection opens the door for new leadership in one of the Capital Region's most prominent elected law enforcement offices.
Chief Cocchiara has indicated she plans to begin meeting with voters and participating in campaign events later this year as she seeks the Democratic nomination.
🗳️ The election will take place next year, and additional candidates are expected to enter the race in the coming months.

Town of Bethlehem Working to Move Legends Preserve Project Forward

🏘️🚧 Town of Bethlehem Working to Move Legends Preserve Project Forward 🚧🏘️
The Town of Bethlehem is taking steps to address the long-running challenges surrounding the unfinished Legends Preserve development in Glenmont.
Town officials recently met with representatives from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) to discuss how to move the stalled project toward completion after construction came to a halt following the former developer's legal and financial troubles.
According to Town officials, the next step will be bringing together key stakeholders—including the Legends Preserve Homeowners Association, the property's new owner, Starlight Development Co., LLC, and other involved agencies—to determine responsibilities and develop a path forward.
🏡 Why Has the Project Been Delayed?
Several factors have complicated efforts to complete the development, including:
🌿 State and federal wetland mitigation requirements
💧 Stormwater permitting that had been tied to the former developer
⚡ Utility easements affecting access to portions of the property
🚧 Unfinished infrastructure and remaining construction work
Officials say a recently completed regulatory step now allows a new applicant to pursue the permits needed to continue work on the site.
🌱 Private Property vs. Town Responsibilities
Town officials also clarified that many concerns raised by residents—such as drainage swales and certain landscaping issues—are located on private property, meaning they fall under the responsibility of the homeowners association rather than the Town.
However, vegetation located within the Town's right-of-way that creates traffic safety concerns can be addressed by the Town when appropriate.
🔍 Looking Ahead
The Town says this type of situation is highly unusual and has prompted discussions about whether additional safeguards should be included in future development approvals to help protect homeowners if a developer is unable to finish a project.
Legends Preserve, located off Jolley Road in Glenmont, was planned as a conservation neighborhood featuring townhomes and single-family homes. While earlier phases were completed, work on the final phase stopped in 2024 after the original developer faced criminal charges and later filed for bankruptcy.
Town officials say their focus now is on working collaboratively with all parties involved to help find solutions that will allow the development to move forward.

🧩☕ WEDNESDAY MORNING MATH PUZZLER SOLVED! ☕🧩

🧠✅ Wednesday Morning Math Puzzler Solution!
Today's puzzle is:
4 + 4 + 4 × 4 + 4 × 0
The secret is remembering the Order of Operations (PEMDAS)!
📚 Step 1: Do the Multiplication First
Before adding, solve the multiplication problems:
4 × 4 = 16
4 × 0 = 0
Now the equation becomes:
4 + 4 + 16 + 0
📚 Step 2: Add from Left to Right
4 + 4 = 8
8 + 16 = 24
24 + 0 = 24
🎉 Final Answer: 24 ✅
🤔 But Wait... The Image Says "The Answer is NOT 24!"
That's actually the trick!
The image is designed to make you second-guess yourself. Some people assume there must be a hidden trick because it says the answer isn't 24. But there isn't one.
If you follow the correct Order of Operations, the answer is:
✅ 24
💡 Teaching Tip
Remember the PEMDAS rule:
P – Parentheses
E – Exponents
M – Multiplication
D – Division
A – Addition
S – Subtraction
Always complete multiplication and division before addition and subtraction, working left to right when they are at the same level.
🏆 Final Check
4 × 4 = 16
4 × 0 = 0
4 + 4 + 16 + 0 = 24
🎯 Correct Answer: 24
💬 Did the caption fool you into looking for a trick? Sometimes the biggest trick is trusting your math! Were you one of the people who got 24 right the first time? Let us know in the comments! 🧠👏
