🎉 FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 2019, BETHLEHEM GIRLS SOCCER IS HEADED TO THE STATE REGIONAL FINAL!

What a night for the Bethlehem Central Varsity Girls Soccer Team! In a thrilling Section 2 Class AA championship matchup Tuesday evening, November 3, the No. 2 seeded Eagles defeated No. 5 Ballston Spa 4-2 in penalty kicks, following a hard-fought 1-1 tie through regulation and two overtime periods!

The dramatic victory sends Bethlehem one step closer to the NEW YORK STATE FINAL FOUR! 🏆

⚽ A CHAMPIONSHIP BATTLE TO REMEMBER!

Playing in Latham, the Eagles found themselves trailing 1-0 at halftime after Ballston Spa's Haley Wiltsie scored late in the first half.

But Bethlehem wasn't about to let its season end!

🔥 Just four minutes into the second half, Maira Braddock delivered the equalizer, tying the game at 1-1 and breathing new life into the Eagles' championship hopes!

Neither team could break the deadlock through the remainder of regulation or two intense 15-minute overtime periods.

Both teams came agonizingly close to scoring, including a Bethlehem shot by June McCarthy that struck the crossbar during the first overtime.

🥅 THEN CAME THE PENALTY KICK SHOWDOWN!

With a trip to the regional final on the line, Bethlehem rose to the occasion!

🧤 GOALKEEPER KINLEY LOGSDON set the tone with a crucial save on Ballston Spa's opening penalty kick!

⚽ The Eagles then delivered a perfect performance from the penalty spot, converting ALL FOUR of their attempts!

🌟 ELYANA SHERSKY stepped up and buried the decisive fourth penalty kick, sending the Eagles and their supporters into celebration!

🏫🎉 NEW LIFE FOR FORMER SHOPRITE IN SLINGERLANDS! DISABILITY SERVICES SCHOOL PLANS MOVE TO VISTA! 🏗️💚

📢 BIG NEWS FOR BETHLEHEM AND THE VISTA COMMUNITY!

The former ShopRite supermarket at 41 Vista in Slingerlands could soon have an exciting new purpose — helping children and young people with disabilities receive the education and services they need!

The Town of Bethlehem has announced its support for the planned relocation of the Center for Disability Services' Kevin G. Langan School to the vacant supermarket property, following Governor Kathy Hochul's announcement of $6.5 MILLION in state funding to support the project.

🏫 WHAT'S PLANNED FOR THE FORMER SHOPRITE?

The Center for Disability Services plans to transform the former grocery store into a new educational facility for its Kevin G. Langan School.

The relocation and expansion would provide:

✅ Additional classroom and educational space

✅ Expanded services for students with disabilities

✅ Capacity to serve more than 50 additional students currently on the school's waitlist

✅ A new use for a substantial vacant commercial property

✅ Increased activity and potential economic benefits for the Vista area

💚 A SCHOOL THAT MAKES A DIFFERENCE

The Kevin G. Langan School is part of the Center for Disability Services, a longstanding Capital Region organization providing education, support, and specialized services to individuals with disabilities and their families.

The planned expansion would allow the school to reach more students who need its specialized educational programs.

🏗️ A NEW CHAPTER FOR THE VISTA PROPERTY

For Bethlehem residents familiar with the former ShopRite location, the announcement represents a significant opportunity to bring new activity to a property that has remained vacant since the supermarket closed.

Town Supervisor David VanLuven welcomed the proposed relocation, emphasizing both the importance of the services provided by the Center for Disability Services and the potential benefits of bringing a major employer and educational facility to Vista.

The town also sees the project as an opportunity to encourage additional investment and economic activity within Vista Park.

📍 WHY THIS MATTERS TO BETHLEHEM

The proposal could deliver several benefits to the local community:

🏫 Education: More opportunities for students with disabilities to access specialized programs.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Families: Expanded capacity could help reduce the school's existing waiting list.

🏢 Economic Development: Reusing a vacant commercial building could strengthen activity in the Vista area.

💼 Employment: The relocation could support jobs and bring additional employees and visitors to the property.

🤝 Community Investment: The project would establish a new educational presence in Slingerlands.

📋 WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

The relocation is still a PLANNED PROJECT, not a completed move.

According to the town's October 30 announcement, Bethlehem officials will continue working with the project team through applicable local review and approval processes.

The town also reaffirmed its broader commitment to attracting businesses, technology, manufacturing, and other employment-generating uses to Vista Park.

👏 A PROMISING NEW PURPOSE FOR A FAMILIAR BETHLEHEM PROPERTY!

The proposed transformation of the former ShopRite into a specialized school could bring renewed activity to Vista while expanding educational opportunities for families throughout the Capital Region.

💬 BETHLEHEM, WHAT DO YOU THINK?

🏫 Are you pleased to see a potential new use for the former ShopRite building?

💚 Do you think expanding educational services for students with disabilities is a positive addition to the Vista area?
