🇺🇸🕯️ 25 YEARS LATER — WE REMEMBER SEPTEMBER 11TH 🕯️🇺🇸

Twenty-five years ago today, the world changed.

On the morning of September 11, 2001, nearly 3,000 people began what should have been an ordinary Tuesday. They said goodbye to their families, headed to work, boarded airplanes and went about their morning — never knowing what was about to happen.

Today, Albany NY Local Scoop joins communities across the Capital Region and our nation in remembering them. ❤️

We remember those whose lives were taken and the families who endured unimaginable loss.

We remember the firefighters, police officers, paramedics, first responders and everyday people who ran toward danger to help complete strangers. 🚒🚓🚑

But there is something else worth remembering.

🇺🇸 In the aftermath of tragedy, Americans came together.

Strangers helped strangers. Neighbors checked on neighbors. People lined up to donate blood. Flags appeared on homes and businesses. Communities supported first responders and grieving families.

For a time, many of the things that normally divided us seemed far less important.

Perhaps one of the most meaningful ways we can honor those lost 25 years ago is by remembering that sense of humanity, compassion and community.

❤️ Call someone you love.

🤝 Help a neighbor or stranger.

🚒 Thank a first responder.

🫂 Hold your family a little closer.

🇺🇸 And remember that despite our differences, there is still far more that can bring us together than pull us apart.

We shouldn't need tragedy to remind us how precious life is — or how much kindness matters.

May we never forget the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

And may we never forget the courage, compassion and humanity that followed.

🕯️ 9.11.01 — NEVER FORGET. 🇺🇸

SLINGERLANDS HISTORY ON THE MOVE! HISTORIC OLD FREIGHT DEPOT GETTING

NEW LIFE

🚂🏗️ SLINGERLANDS HISTORY ON THE MOVE! HISTORIC OLD FREIGHT DEPOT GETTING NEW LIFE 🧱❤️

A piece of Slingerlands history is preparing for a careful move — and a new chapter.

Officials gathered Thursday for a groundbreaking marking the start of a project to relocate and rehabilitate the 162-year-old Slingerlands Train Station baggage building, commonly known as the Old Freight Depot.

🏗️ As part of the project, the historic structure will be lifted and moved a short distance onto a new foundation with modern concrete footings. Work will also address deteriorating brick and wood framing while preserving the building's historic character.

The project goes beyond simply saving an old building. Plans call for adding electricity, water and sewer access, creating opportunities for the former freight house to be repurposed and once again become an active part of the community.

💰 Albany County Executive Dan McCoy announced that the work is being supported by a $425,000 Empire State Development grant through New York State's County Infrastructure Grant Program.

The depot is listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places as a contributing resource within the Slingerlands Historic District — making its preservation an important link to Bethlehem's transportation and railroad history.

🚲 Its location along the Albany County Helderberg-Hudson Rail Trail also gives the project added significance. County officials say the investment will help support the surrounding community and nearly 300 nearby businesses.

For Bethlehem-area residents, this is a great example of historic preservation meeting modern community development — protecting an important piece of Slingerlands' past while preparing it for future use.

👏 We're looking forward to seeing what the next chapter holds for this 162-year-old Slingerlands landmark!

It was a difficult Thursday night on the gridiron for Bethlehem Central, as the Eagles fell to the Columbia Blue Devils, 31-0.

But there’s plenty of football still ahead! 💪🦅

FRIDAY MORNING

MATH PUZZLER SOLVED!

🧮 FRIDAY MORNING MATH PUZZLER — CAN YOU GET IT RIGHT? 🤔

Today’s problem is:

3 + 5 × 2 = ?

The key is remembering the Order of Operations. Multiplication comes before addition.

✏️ Step 1: Do the multiplication first

5 × 2 = 10

Now the problem becomes:

3 + 10

✏️ Step 2: Add

3 + 10 = 13

🎯 FINAL ANSWER: 13

A common mistake is working strictly from left to right:

3 + 5 = 8
8 × 2 = 16

But multiplication has priority over addition, so 16 is not the correct answer.

🧠 Teaching Tip: Remember PEMDAS:

P – Parentheses
E – Exponents
M/D – Multiplication & Division, left to right
A/S – Addition & Subtraction, left to right

How many of you got 13 before checking the answer? 🙋‍♀️🙋‍♂️
